Great shots! I learned to drive on a 1931 Model AA 1 1/2 ton grain truck when I was 12. Still have it. Not as pretty as this.
Go to Arizona Highways website and download some of their day trips. Hard to beat. S
Camera Mart is only about 1/2 hour from downtown Detroit via Lodge to Telegraph and they are the best.
What part of the area are you in?
Last time I lost any equipment, I was just outside Colombus, OH. Crime has no permanent address. Common sense is better than a Glock.
Having spewed that, you might want to contact Robert Stewart (robert@rstewartphoto.com). Photographer, teacher, lecturer, former Detroit cop, former Chicago cab-driver, who leads some urban photo safaris. He might have something going when you are in town. I have spent several 500-600 images days with him. I'd post a couple but am away from my main PC.
If all the names we know now disappeared, some guy would put something together in his garage just like in the beginning. The technology will remain with the labs and shops. Comparing a pinhole to the latest Hasselblad, the basic premise remains the same, capturing an image, using light, on a storage medium.
I shoot with a Sony A65 (prev. A Minolta Maxxum since '81) and my wife is a diehard Nikonite. We crossover on occasion without any problems. To me it is about what feels good in my hands (her c3s doesn't) and, more importantly, it is about the glass. We buy the best glass we can afford. As someone else posted, the stuff I have now will probably outlive me! When I think back to using all the stuff I have in the basement, like my Graflex Excel, I am sure somebody would step up to fill any void left by an exiting manufacturer.
Just got a Sony 70-300mm F 4-5.6 G SSM lens (a gift from my wife) for my a65 and am heading west (mostly northern AZ) on a 5 week road trip. Anybody have any tips, tricks or suggestions for getting the most out of this beaut??
Have used them for over a year and they met or exceed expectations. Base price gives you unlimited space on a single hard drive. Initial upload takes forever, but it runs in the background. Subsequent uploads are quick and again are imperceptible.
"Because I want to and can" sounds reasonable to me!
I was an "old" Minolta guy and got an a65 so I could use my old glass.
Great unit in any lighting. I have even shot with available light "after dark" in the city (with tripod of course) and got fantastic images.
Yeah, I guess I mislabeled it. What we call, around here, a grasshopper. Midwestern relative of the locust.
On the way out this morning and this guy was perched on the truck, shadow and all.
Went looking for that shot, but here is one that looks more like Detroit today. Shot was taken the same day.
One of the things that I like to shoot are elements of architecture. Here are a couple from The Motor City.
