Thanks for the tips:-) I did buy 2 extra batteries and charger so i will be ready. I had that happen to me in Mexico a few years back. I even ordered an extra series 10 SD card. I've even packed these early.

Yes I will. Thanks so much! I am short and even tilted the LCD screen and got some pics of Third World on stage over the heads of the folks standing in front of me. I wouldn't have been able to do this with my Samsung :-) Tomorrow's a new day for more pictures and more practice.

Thanks. I know that photography is a much learned and practiced skill. I just want to and know that i will only be able to learn the basics of using this camera and practice taking pictures in different settings (normal, low light, dark, sunlight, cloudy, dawn). I just want to practice these things and get the feel of this camera so I can be more than lucky when I take pictures during my trip. Tonight I was at an outdoor event. I took some pictures without a flash. OMG! They came out clear and bright! I am so excited to see what beautiful pictures I will get with this camera:-)

Thanks,I did:-) I actually ordered a series 10 SD card, 2 batteries, and a charger from Amazon. I bought a series 10 Sandisk 8g SD card with the camera. I don't want to be without enough memory or batteries. I've been there and done that on a trip to Mexico a few years ago Off to practice taking pictures:-)

My name is Traci and I'm a novice who likes to take pictures, but rarely develops them. My new goal is to develope my photos from my daughter's prom, graduation, and my recent trip to Whistler, Canada. These were all taken on my Samsung SH100.

My second goal was
to buy a better camera for my upcoming trip to Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora. With much research and help from UHH, I chose the Nikon p510.

My final goal is to learn how to basics to take some fantastic pictures. All this in 10 day!:-)

Thanks. I did buy the Nikon p 510 yesterday evening. I really like the "feel" of it. I started practicing with it and it does take some awesome pictures! I'm going to try to take a class so i can learn a bit more quickly. My trip is in 2 weeks :-)

Thanks so much for your help. I'm leaning towards the p510 for the very reason you gave. I am one that would wish I had the camera with more features. I just came back from Whistler Canada last week. I used my Samsung sh100 to take pictures. Although, I got the bear while riding in the gondola, you really can't tell its a bear. Some of the mountain pictures are washed out because of the zoom and the low light pictures were really dark. I took several and none of the settings worked well.

I have read that I need a series 10 SD card. I've seen them on amazon for around $13 for a 16g.

I know I've got a lot more reading to do. However, I want to get the camera asap to give me time to practice.

Thanks again. You've been very helpful:-)

Thanks so much. I read the snapshot review, too. Now, when I went to the store, I saw the Nikon p510. I liked the feel and features. However, is that enough to pay $200 more for. I'm going to Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora in 2 wks. I'm going to Kauai next summer. I really want to get some good pictures. So, is the p510 worth the extra $200 over the L810?
Thanks for all your help:-)
