Bill, I just purchased the Tamron 150-600 for my Nikon D750 and have absolutely no regrets. A friend of mine has the Nikon 200-500 which is a nice lens but I feel the build quality and features on the Tamron are better. It focuses super fast. I couldn't believe how fast this thing focuses. And when I was at Hunt's Photo I could not believe how light in weight it is. I scale weighed my 150-600 at 4 lbs & 12 oz. The Sigma is at least 2 lbs. heavier (I think). I know the Nikon 200-500 is much heavier.
There is an internet article where the author compares all 3 - the Tamron 150-600, the Sigma 150-600 Sport, and the Nikon 200-500. I think I saved the article in my Favorites Photo folder. I'll see if I can find it.
Earlier, I also purchased the Tamron 24-70 G2 VC and selected this lens over both Nikon 24-70 cousins. The key here is "G2" series. Tamron has made some nice improvements with this G2 series release over their first version. No regrets with this lens either. ~FiddleMaker

Check your facts. According to this comparison Sigma is a whooping 2.7 oz lighter.

I too went thru the internal questioning you are experiencing. The deciding factor for me was a carrying case. Both lenses are excellent, we have a significant group of these lens here, and both produce really good shots in the hands of experienced and unexperienced hands.

The Facebook group, Jacobson Park Photographers, is where you can see their results. Honestly, NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE between the lenses. However, you on occassions have to carry/transport these monster lens, and do not underestimate the sizes or the thrill these lenes are. The Sigma comes in a nice padded and fitted case, which Tamron did not. These lenses are not free, they are inexpensive compared to other, but you do want to protect them, and a case is, in my experience, a necessity.

Next question you will have is tripod or monopod. I am one of a very few who handhold these lenses. Be prepared for a real weight issue after holding any length of time. I stick an extremely light weight Canon SL1 on my lens, it makes a real difference.

Ready yourself for fun, these lenses are a ball, and completely addictive.

Looking forward to seeing you images, good luck!

We only see these twice a year here in Kentucky, as the winter far south of us, and summer far north of us. However, during migration the are well received and appreciated.

Comments deeply appreciated

Exactly what is IT with Bird Photography?

Sometimes with bird photography it is all about facial expression!

Sometimes with bird photography it is all about the fish!

Sometimes with bird photography it is all about the odd man out!

And sometimes with bird photography it is just about the bird!

Unbelievably these photos were captured in our small park, within 5 miles of downtown Lexington Ky.

I have been stalking this pair here at the town park I frequent for almost a year. Heard stories of them, but did not know anyone who saw or photographed them, just heard them. My stepdaughter dated a young man who lived adjacent to the park, and they would sometimes enter the park after it was closed. She pointed out "where" she heard it.

I finally saw and photographed one of the pair, saw the mate, but it flew off too quickly. My goal now is a family portrait, and a good image of them in flight.

Nice capture. A little soft. Was this hand held or taken with a tri or monopod?

Handheld.

Thank you

What I most enjoy is when they just submerge rather than dive.

Yes, however, a much harder event to document!
