For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to take pictures. I saved up my allowance as a very young child and bought a Kodak flash camera (one version newer than the trusty old Brownie, which I also owned at some point.)

These days, I have a point-and-shoot that my hubby is very pleased with. It's really not a bad camera; it just doesn't do what I want. I love getting right up into a flower, taking shots in quick succession or getting my dogs and cats in a fleeting pose. Sweetie's camera just can't oblige.

I have decided this is the time to act! Our son is getting married in September in Massachusetts and we are driving across the country to attend. I want to capture this once-in-a-lifetime event (the trip and the wedding) the way I see it. I am very fortunate to know excellent photographers who are happy to share their wisdom with me. I am going to avail myself of classes.

But first I need to choose a camera. I see the ubiquitous ads for Nikon and Canon. I spoke to a man staffing a camera store who loves the new Sonys. I am open to all advice. I want the best I can afford (of course) with reliability and be able to update the camera reasonably when new accessories are available.

Is it all too much to ask for? I'll certainly find out. But, that's part of the fun, isn't it. The thrill of the hunt and proudly showing off the prize!
