I shoot with the same settings but I would suggest you get a seperate card for RAW with about twice the capacity. Also, get class 10 cards with at least 45mbs. If you don't mind looking, you can find 90mbs cards. Have fun.

With my limited experience and Hogg sitings, I'm skipping the JPEG vs Raw thoughts and decided to do both. Future technology could make the RAW valuable to me. Comments on my possible selections:
Image Quality: Fine
Image Size: Large
JPEG Compression: Optimal Quality
NEF (RAW) recording: Type--Lossless Compressed
NEF (RAW) bit depth--14-bit

Again this is for a D7000 and the use will be for a 2 week photo excursion to Yellowstone that c
ould produce images to be 12X16, 16X20 and a possible 24X36.

My justification for my choices is not based on anything other than limited research and thoughts. Looking for possible viable alternatives.

My dad has film development equipment that he bought while in photography class some years ago. I was asked if I might know of anyone that might be interested. I have no details at the moment but can get them if anyone would be interested.

I thought I could use a wireless shutter release for my Nikon D5100, looked in Amazon and got overloaded with information. Could you all help me out?

What works? Do I need something that will allow me to make a "half press," and should I stick with a Nikon product?
Last question, does this really make a difference with camera shake on a tripod, or is it just as good to use the self-timer?

Thanks.

When I first joined I thought I might do a quick How To Google post and kill off the site as it always seemed so easy to look up an answer to someone's question. In time I had a question of my own and realized, while some questions can be Googled, most are looking for actual experience, opinions and ideas from the members here. It does not stop me from playing Google Says as that can be helpful, but now I think about it more and if I have any wisdom to depart I add that too.

  Thank you Steve, Many times I have Googled a subject, only to find so many answers and many of them not really answering the true question.

It appears that there is a degree of misunderstanding of what a histogram actually is and exactly what information it displays.

I will reference this to jpeg images for the sake of this thread and for all those ready to correct me on unhelpful technical details please allow me some licence in order to keep this as understandable for as many people as possible.

That’s probably enough for now, I’ll let this sink in and settle for a bit before I continue. Rob.

Thank you Winterrose, I would like to highlight your request for for licence in this. (So many individuals just want to be heard) I am fairly new to photography and I very much appretiate Persons like yourself that make effort to help those of us who drown in detail. Please continue.

Thank you again,

OK I found this old hand tool in a box of old knives I bought from and Estate Sale.
This belonged to the family's grandfather who hand made hunting knives for a hobby. The family could not tell me what this tool was used for.
It is 9" long. and has two brackets on each end. Any idea's.

It looks like an old barbeque grill, wire brush handle. I have seen something like it before where the wire brush is replacable and the handle is the keeper. :?: :| :?

bdo, if you head east out of Glenwood Springs, to Redstone, Co. there used to be old coking ovens right next to the Hwy. If you head toward Aspen there are a number of vistas along the river also.

I have a chance to head out into NW Colorado the first week of June, around Craig, Meeker, Rifle, Dinosaur National Monument, etc.

I'm looking for suggestions for photo opportunities, especially landscape and wildlife, but also historic sites, or anything interesting in that neck of the woods

Short off-road hikes are OK, but I'm getting too old to get too far off a road. Back roads are fine, as I have an AWD vehicle.

So let me know what you all suggest.

Thanks.

I am using the Nikon D7000 with the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Nikkor, about $850.00. I believe for the price, it takes great shots.  ...

Hi UHH Mates,
Just putting it out there to hear back from all of us Nikon D7000 users. What is your best walk around zoom lens currently priced up to $1000 that suit Nikon D7000.
Would like to hear what fast lens are out there @ good value.

Nikon has the 3 good "Holy Trinity" lens, but they are all close to the $2000 or above.

Cheers.
