I am new at this but I wanted to ask a question too. Isn't #1 distorted? I would of deleted that because to my eye it seems the photographer was too close. Almost like a fish eye. From what I learned, I would be further away from my subject and zoom in. I can never say anything negative about a photo of a child as they are all adorable but I just wanted to ask if anyone else sees this or is it just my inexperienced eye?

I totally see what you are saying, and normally I would agree with you and would have deleted it, but in this particular instance, I was trying to get the view I am often confronted with when my kids are excited about something, or just REALLY want my attention and they get RIGHT in my face to tell me something that is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY important to them lol. So that is what I see lol. Not everyone will like that one, and I'm totally cool with that =)
Thank you very much for the feedback and for commenting. Asking those types of questions are awesome because they make me think about what I'm doing and make me ask questions like that too. Which can only make us improve =D

With me living just above Jackson I sure would like to see us "Locals" getting together for some kind of photo shoot & of course "shoot the breeze" too.

That would be awesome! =)

Have you gone to Columbia State Park? What a great place to take pictures. It real close to Sonora and Jamestown. I try to get up there a couple of times a year and really enjoy the whole area. There are a couple of really good Photography culb in Sonora as well.

Many times =) I haven't gone for the specific purpose of taking pictures yet, but I love walking around there.

This is an old self-portrait I took last November. I've been wanting to get a critique on it for quite a while and haven't gotten around to it lol. But I remembered today, and so any thing you would like to critique would be most appreciated. Lighting? Mood? Focus?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum, Kendra. Beautiful pictures! What is the red flower? Is that a ginger plant?

I'm not sure...It was this cool little red bushy plant growing here and there all over the top of Table Mountain. All I know about it is that it's red, and I love the color red =D

Hello all! My name is Kendra and thought I would introduce myself here. I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. I've been trying to teach myself about photography for about a year now, and so I'm looking to learn all I can =) I can't wait to meet you all and look forward to your input!

Hi Mamas-Art: Welcome to the forum... Way back in '69 I drove the length of hwy 49 and stopped at every little gold mine town, including the former site of Sutters Mill, that launched the California gold rush, saw the results of strip mining, camped at Wild Plum. Great memories.

Thank you! The area has changed quite a bit since '69! Did you happen to visit Calaveras County while traveling hwy 49?

Hi Mamas-Art: I believe I did but wouldn't swear to it. I know Calaveras county was made famous by Mark Twain because of it's leaping frog contest. Are they still holding those and if so when?

It's held the third weekend in May. We just finished up our 2012 county fair.

***Edit sorry, Harvey answered that already, shows you how observant I am...lol

Have you been out shooting the wild flowers & forest that are roaring into bloom now?

Sounds fun!
I have been shooting all the prettiness around here lately =)
