My dad’s brother in law worked at a funeral home in Alton Illinois and they had a couple of Caddy hearses, one with a V12 and the other with a V16. He drove them and said they both had plenty of power regardless of the engine rpm, but surprisingly weren’t any smoother than a V8.

I’ve read several different accounts that the Buick “holes” were meant to resemble the exhaust ports found on airplanes, especially those with in line engines. My dad was from that era and he said the 6 cylinder models had three holes while 8s had four. A Buick owner had either “three holer” or “four holer”.

Flames enhance nearly everything, giving the subject an impression of speed. I’m considering flames for my camera, electric toothbrush and toilet paper.

It definitely gets hot and bland mid day.
We had a storm blow through midnight our last night of tent camping. Local news said gusts of 72mph.
The 4 of us “slept” in the truck, watched our tents fold up like oragami lol.

But so worth the experience

I always say whatever doesn’t kill you makes for a good story later.

Nice. The scenery in the park dull and uninteresting midday under a blinding sun but is quite beautiful during morning and evening.

Interesting thing about lupine is that it’s poisonous to cattle but not sheep. In the high country rangelands it’s considered a weed, although a pretty weed. Calves raised in the high country learn from mom to not eat it while cattle raised in non- mountainous areas will eat it with disastrous results.

They’re a good camera. I don’t use it a lot but the HDR works quite well. And by only taking two shots, one can hand hold it and get good results.

Now that you have said that some UHH member will probably try it.

You mean parking a dozen refrigerators in their kitchen? I could believe that.

The pushing back thing is wrong. It’s about overcoming resistance. Take the floor in your kitchen. You park a 500 pound refrigerator in the middle of it, so by the pushing back thinking the refrigerator is pushing down with 500 pounds of force and the floor pushes up with 500 pounds of force. However that’s not true. The floor will deflect (sag), meaning the floor isn’t pushing back equally. Park enough refrigerators on the kitchen floor and they all end up in the basement, meaning the floor did not respond with an equal but opposite force. The weight of the refrigerators overcame the resistance afforded by the tensile strength of the wood fibers in the floor joists. The floor joists didn’t “push back” against the weight loaded onto them, they were stretched apart until they failed.

Or take the springs on the suspension of your car. It may take 250 pounds of weight to compress the spring the first inch, 250 more (500 total) to compress it the second inch and so on (assuming it is a single rate spring). If the spring pushed back with an equal and opposite force, the spring would never compress no matter how much weight was applied.

The only thing equal and opposite is the amount of potential energy stored. Compress the above spring one inch and it is storing 250 pounds of potential energy, two inches and it’s 500 pounds of potential energy and so on. Turn the spring loose and that potential energy turns into kinetic energy, which then knocks out your teeth.

One thing guys have that women don’t have but wish they did is self confidence. A woman can be dressed to the hilt and look great but she thinks she still doesn’t look good enough. We guys can have a hairy beer belly hanging out from under a T shirt three sizes too small and a half mile of plumbers crack exposed above our drooping drawers and never give it a second thought. And after a couple of beers, we actually think we look good to women. Now that’s self confidence!

Let's ask CHG_CANON if he finally realized that he needs a Nikon DSLR. We can get miles of giggles out of that.

But you can’t fault the man for his brand loyalty. Canon could come out with a state of the art mirrorless pin hole camera and he would gladly point out its virtues. Gotta admire a person with that much faith.

I’ve noticed some of the poking and prodding going on here. Researchers claim that subtle humor is a difficult concept to grasp, as is sarcastic humor. And then you have some otherwise intelligent people where humor rolls off them like water off a duck’s back. They just don’t get it. Or maybe they are just unable to feel humor.
