Various publishers or printers use different formats. Some want a PDF and some want a Word type format.
Their quidelines should specify the file format preference. I had to create a certain type of PDF file for my paperback.

There are many styles of painting. Most use sign board and exterior house paint to create a quilt block for a barn. The quilt pattern is taped on the boad and normally painted by hand. Some colors require several coats of paint to get a uniform look.

I used Open Office to convert my manuscript to a PDF. It worked well for my paperback.

Smashwords Quide was very helpful to get it into the epub format for Nook and other ereaders.

I've created a text ebook but not one with photographs. I use Snowfall Press for my paperback printing. I'm not certain how they handle photographs. Updates are ongoing within the company.
I did my own formats for my books. Would be interested in your research. Placing pics of Quilt Barns in my next book would add to its selling ability.

I love quilt barns. We've made several trips following the quilt trails in various states. I'm a writer of Christian romance. My first book, Grow Old With Me, has a B&B with quilt themed rooms.
I'm currently working on a book about The Quilt Barn Painter. It's been great fun to meet many people who create the beautiful patterns they hang on barns. Attended and spoke at the Quilt Trail Convention in Ohio last year.
