Drop the shutter setting down until it disappears.
Should be listed in the manual or on the 'net.
A lot of them these days are 1/250 or 1/200 max.

I am trying out my promaster strobes that have been sitting in my basement for a year. I am getting a shadow all the way across the picture either on the side or bottom. Does any one know what is causing this?
I am not familiar with strobes at all.
any help is appreciated.
thank you

Okay, I think I found the problem. The focal length is displayed only when the flash head is pointing forward. If you are using it in a bounce-flash setting, it will show --mm.

Thank you! That's it. :)

I have a canon 430ex ii on my canon 60d. My question is: when it is in ETTL mode should the zoom -- mm on the screen show what my lens is set on. If its at 24 should it say zoom 24mm, or if it's at 70 zoom 70mm?
Mine is not changing it just stays on zoom--mm?
I thought in ETTL it automatically detects your lens mm?
Thanks for anyone who can help!

Make sure the flash is in ettl mode , sounds like you have the flash set to manual zoom or even Slave mode . I dont have the manual in front of me right now, but yes it should auto zoom .

Thanks. So it should actually be showing me the numbers and changing as I zoom in and out.? It is definitely in ETTL. And I don't have it on manual and the slave mode would be showing if it were on so I believe
I've it set correctly. Do I have to set anything in my camera?

Can anyone suggest a good computer specifically for editing? I am not really interested in building one. I'd like one that all ready to order or pick up. I'd like to keep it under 1000, as far under as possible!

I hope you let us know what you finally decide to do.

Well I sure will. You guys are funny!

Jerry, thanks for the info. I will look into what you have said. I do have a decent IPS monitor however I may upgrade that as well in the future. I am currently using my Dell laptop, that isn't work out very well at all! I'm not interested in a Mac either, I have spent too much money on programs that will not work with a Mac. I also have an external harddrive that I use for back up too. I can't wait to get my hands on a good computer! I just want to make sure I get the right one.

I'll be interested in seeing the other replies. I was thinking about replacing my 2 1/2 year-old computer a few weeks ago. I looked at what was available, and I didn't see any need to spend another $1,000.

What type of laptop are you using now?? I have to agree with whoever said take a look at a good monitor that you can run off your current system. Dell makes some fantastic monitors designed for photo editing. I currently am using the Ultrasharp 21.5 inch monitor and it's like night and day from my laptop monitor, I believe it sold for around $225.00. Dells 24 inch Ultrasarp #U2410 is one of the top photo monitors on the market today and if anyone is looking for one I have a brand new one which I'm selling for $350.00---they sell for $550.00. Just a thought and hope some help.......

I am currently using a 23 inch LG IPS monitor that is pretty good. I don't use my lap top screen. That's pretty much useless. I will look into those monitors you have mentioned bc i do want another one.

I think you need to define the level of photo editing. In my mind it can range from RAW images in the 12mp to 15mp range which would require a moderate computer. However if you are going to do panoramas that are a few images again a simple computer. Also some software requires a lot more ram than others. Another consideration is that on PC's you will probably look at a life span of around 5 years. Apple will give you a longer life.
Is your editing going to be for friends and family, vacations etc. or are you trying to get published? If it is the latter, you will need a large screen with very good resolution. The long and short of it is you need to tell us what you really want to do.
