Thankyou for your nice comment. Not much of a sunset today as the sun decided to hide behind clouds. But the pink and blue colours were dramatic. I zoomed in for this zen shot, simply water and sky...kinda makes you think. I normally like to have more content in my shots but I've been taking a few of these lately.

Aloha, I hope you get to return here on day too. Winter is the best time climate wise. Here is a zen shot I did today of our sunset in Kona. Taken from my balcony at home in Honaunau Kona, Hawai'i

Aloha Pat, Yes to fog can get really thick up on Saddle Road, the one that goes between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea to join Kona on the west side to Hilo on the east. This road has been updated to make it safer and to bypass Pohakuloa Army Base allowing for better security there I suppose. There's a rest stop with bathrooms along the way near the Army Base. I wouldn't worry about bad drivers on this road because now they are everywhere. Just drive safely and observe everything that moves near your car lol. Aloha for now....islandric
Sending you this sunset from tonight. I wanted to take more pics but I had company at my heels.

Yes it snows on 2 mountains on the Big Island, rarely 3. It's also a nice drive up 13K ft. to the summit. Love the view of the sunsets from up high, not to mention the fisheye view of the islands below.

Went to the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Waimea on the Big Island yesterday but the blossoms had dwindled with few left on the trees to our disappointment. Took very little photos, none of which turned out very well but I will post one of the snow at Mauna Kea Summit where our Space Observatories are located. Also, a few shots of today's sunset in Honaunau, Hawai'i. If you are not familiar with the islands I can tell you a few things. Hawai'i as you know is the name of our state but it is also the name of our Island which is synonymous with "Big Island." Aloha everyone.

I don't know why my photo didn't appear on the screen. Instead there is a download prompt and if you press yes you'll be able to see it. Sorry for that.

I take sunset photos daily as I mentioned earlier. Sorry to be busy at this time as I want to devote more time to this website but work on our farm is non-ending. I will be back soon with more interesting photos I hope. Aloha for now from Kona.

It's fun going to Southpoint unless you don't like the remoteness and bareness. One has to be really patient to find those glass floaters while sifting through mountains of trash. We saw a boat once that had washed up from Japan. You never know what you'll see or find. On one of my earlier trips there after moving back to Hawai'i I found a nice driftwood tree which rode home on the roof of my car. This became my christmas tree, decorated with shells and Hawai'ian memorabilia and such. Very cool.

Hawai'ian butterflies are very easy to photograph because they don't frighten as easily as the Monarchs. I've taken many pics of thiese butterflies, some on bamboo, or poinsiettas like this one, and other flowers. It's a lot of fun filming these beautiful creatures.

Southpoint is known locally as the place where boats and trash from all over the world end up. My brother fishes and dives there for lobster, in and out of caves catching them by hand, sometimes without air tanks. Not me lol. He has found those glass balls (100s) used by fishermen as floaters, some from the 1940's, still floating around in the sea. I have yet to find one.

I have a great view of sunsets from my house overlooking the ocean which lies about 7 miles below our feet. I enjoy the patterns of light on the water and the variations in colour which changes daily. If you ever wonder what those markings are on the ocean's surface (other than wave movement) it may be rain water, boat oil, pollution, etc., things that float on the surface of our ocean's dense salt water.

Shot from the lookout overlooking the valley, simply panning in to get the maximum coverage in my photo. I love photos that are chucked full to capacity of all kinds of things. ie., the state of the union address last week, did you see? The photography was stunning as the audience was presented almost on one frame (hundreds maybe thousands of people in one shot).
Have another one taken same day with a couple walking on the beach, almost the same content.
