No, I did not do that and I also checked bracketing so I need to check further. Driving me crazy.

I will try that but don't think I did. Usually I aim for heads. I will check next week at soccer.

I have a Nikon D500, had it since it came out. I shoot a lot of kids' soccer games and track. Never had a problem until now. These are the settings I have always used: Manual, Shutter speed 1250, aperture F4, auto ISO around 600-800 with a Nixon 300mm F4. All of a sudden faces on players and runners are way too dark. Have the camera set on spot metering. I do not know if I have somehow moved a setting or what. I would appreciate any ideas you might have.

For some reason I am having trouble with the auto iso on my D500. I have the sensitivity set at 250/51200. I am thinking I have something set wrong because it always underexposes. I've never had a problem with my other Nikon cameras. Maybe you can give me advice.

Thank you

I have a Nikon D500. I just want to know what is the purpose of using Shutter Priority for sports when you can't move the aperture? I tried it and got pretty much a dark mess in bright sunlight. Thanks for helping.

I know about face tracking. My question is when you go into the custom focusing options (B5) there is an option for face detection for portraits. This does not seem to be happening either because I might be missing something. A yellow square should show up on the person closest to you. I am thinking it has to be in Live View only.

Is Face Detection only available in Live View on the Nikon D500 or am I missing a step or two?

Just preference...faster focus for sports. I was continually losing focus on the D800. Still have my D800. It is a superior camera for portraits and landscape. Not sure I want to keep it though. The ISO is a lot better on the D500. I do not need it for backup.

Thanks for all of your help, but this has been my fault. I was pressing the autofocus button on the button of the camera but dialing the wrong wheel. I was dialing the back button instead of the front. My bad!! These cameras are kind of like Taco Bell...too many menus! I love this camera for its ISO capability. Beats the heck out of my D800. It is going on ebay real soon. Thanks again for your help.

The thing I notice is the auto focus points are not illuminated even though they are turned on. This camera will have to go to service soon because I am wearing dials out going through the menus. 8-)

Yes, I have the latest firmware. I hesitate to reset at the moment because of all those custom banks. They will be deleted and it takes time to get them all back in there.

Sorry, is not the problem. Everything is set as to the manual and even Thom Hogan's Guide. The focus point does not move unless I toggle it myself. I use it for soccer so this makes it more irritating. It works on my D800 so don't know what it could be unless I have set something that should not be set. I really don't see it being rocket science.

Hmm, I went through the settings again and even used Tom Hoagan's D500 Guide and everything is set as it should be but unfortunately nothing is happening. Unfortunately I live in a world of my own with a $2,000 camera and a $2,000 lens stuck to it. There are no other photo people around who can help me. I guess I will have to take it to a photo shop and see if someone there can show me what I have done wrong or maybe it is broken. Seems odd though.

I have been unable to make the 3D tracking work. I have gone through the manual and also used the setup charts yet it does not activate. The focus point does not move. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance
