I also shoot my granddaughter at her gymnastic competitions. The low light conditions make for some serious problems. I purchased the Canon 2.8 70-200 and now do not have any problems with the low light situations. The lens is great.

I too am new to RAW. Was a little tentative at first but tried shooting different articles in my office and then processing on Lightroom. Was I impressed. What a difference in post processing. I them shot my granddaughters gymnastic Competition and what a difference. I shot the competition in Jpeg and Raw to have a comparison. Take the advice the hoggers have given and go for it. Lightroom is definitely the way to go.

I am just about ready to give up on the silverfast software also. I have contacted their tech support and it takes days for them to get back to me. There is no instruction manual for the si9lverfast so its trial and error.

Corryhully - Thanks for the response - I shall try the Vuescan software Please e mail your address to greatpapa3@verizon.net and I shall keep you updated

Hello all
Have been on this site for months and my hats off to all the hoggers for the great advice given to us newbe's. My questions is this: I have been given a Plustek 8100. I am having a problem using the Silverfast software supplied with the scanner. I have checked around and conclude there are many more having the same problem. Do any of you hoggers know of a scanning software that I can use? Have many many to scan.

thanks

I too have approx. 10k photos, slides and negatives to scan. Found prices of 50cents/scan from these type companies on the internet. Sounds pricy.
I have been asking around and a majority of my friends told me to look at the Plustek film/negative scanner. One friend told me his wife was scanning them during the day while home.

Merry Christmas to you
