These shots are not all that clear but as I said they were taken with one of those cheapie cameras back in the 1990's

These are of my Tennessee Walker ( Tony ) One of the best riding horses I ever sat.

While MWAC was hesitant to make a comment about the selective coloring, I will venture in with my opinion. I think selective coloring works best if the colors are toned down, so that you barely notice them being there. These are way to bold for my taste, but then again that is just what it is my taste and if you and your client like them who am I to argue.

Maybe like taking the saturation down, and then doing the selective coloring? I should try that!

I would take the saturation down then erase the part that I wanted colored but experiment with different opacity for the color. This one I did varying the opacity from 25% to 75%. But I think with the softer colors it doesn't overwhelm.

Great suggestion! I will try that!!! Thank you!

These are great pitures. I happen to be a Shriner and I did ride in many parades through out the USA and into Canada. During that time we only used the older cameras. So I will have to search and see what I have. I owned a Tennessee Walker, Saddle Bred and a Fox Trotter. It was a very special time in my life.

In this one shot we had just finished a parade and my horse was still wanting to go. Notice the tight grip I have on the reins.

LOL I have a 20 year old Arab/Quarter cross that wants to go like that all the time!! I would love to see more pictures if you can find them!

Should I just leave it like this?

What I tend to do, and this is all personal preference, if I find a picture just can't get the coloring right I make it black and white, or sepia, or put some toning in there. But this is all completely up to you.

When converting to B/W you need to have the exposure and colours correct to get a nice conversation, coverting to black and white is not a quick fix. Believe me after playing around at trying to get a "perfect" black and white (still learning), I have learned if you start with anything less than perfection when it comes to w/b and exposure your black and white will come out looking muddy, flat and have tone issues.

This is true. I usually use the option where I can pick which colors it filters. Some pictures are better, if it's filtering green, others, red, etc. And some you can just hit b/w and it looks great!

#1 - both of their faces are in the shadows, making it hard to see their facial features. You've managed to keep the detail in the whites, that's a plus. Framing is good, posing is good. I'll leave out my opinions on selective colouring.

#2 - she is a cute little thing. The image is to centered for my taste and I do wish you had gotten some light in her eyes. I also wish the pew behind her wasn't cutting thru her head. Posing is great. Colours are wonderful.

#3 - overall sharp and well done. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not a wedding photographer, nor do I play one on tv. :)

I appreciate the comments! The lighting in the church was a little different! The second picture was actually, just a point and shoot, she was sitting there like that, while I was doing some other pictures and I turned and snapped it. Three, more of a picture to their liking, the girls that make the kissy faces in pictures these days, that's the kind of stuff she liked. Hence the reason for selective color, and the heart hand picture. One of them you have to suit the customers needs type things :)
