I hope these will post now. I couldn't get them to this morning. These are some of the Christmas portraits I did for my daughter's in-laws and some of my family. Hope you enjoy.

Perilin - Pg 6 - You do great work! I love the hilarity expressed in several of yours, like the subjects are actually having fun getting their pictures made! My favorites are the second, fourth, and last ones! They must keep you really busy with their photo requests!

cathydacook - those are very good, great models also

pg 3

mercyme - thank you, the selfy was all in fun but have truly felt that way many times - lol. Your dads photo is very nice, a real treasure. The chalk artists look happy and the cow made me laugh

Pat - thank you for the comments and compliments

JayG - nicely done

pg 4

Pat - your grandsons touch my heart because I know they touch yours. Love horses and I see you covered in camera, hat, coat and gloves! Love these.

GG - thanks :-)

Nan - glad you liked the selfy and I don't really think in terms of portraits when I am shooting either - lol. Too stuffy a term for me :-) I love the face that you cropped, she looks happy and that is what I like to see, fun and happiness

Pat - I like that one and don't ever think you are boring us - I love your shots

GG - those are great shots, the first one is a treasure. I don't even have a smart phone but the kids still love to play with it, I wonder why they love it so much.

Sharing a few... but it's tough because portraits are a personal fave and I must have thousands. Choosing which to share is tough!
(I didn't say I was GOOD at them... just that they are faves lol)

LOVING the portraits others are sharing here, too, btw.
I'm thinking this thread will go pretty far!

tilde531 - Pg 6 - You have some great subjects to work with! I love the moods you create with the variations in color and lighting. And of course the one with Beanz is just an amazing portrait, color-wise and his expression!
I like the way you crop them, too, just enough to really emphasize the faces.
Your creativity and ability to capture the details at just the right time are really awesome.

I picked portraits because it is a challenge for me to do people at all. Well, I didn't do real great so I am opening it up a little.... Lets include portraits of friends, strangers, pets, or even a selfy... and if you just get some close ups of people we will call it a portrait, no full body shots, just close ups of faces.

Dane004 - Pg 6 - You have some very beautiful furry friends, and the pictures look like you could reach out and touch them, right here on the monitor. Nice shots of both!

A few from Missouri. Nice pictures today.

Rufe - Pg 6 - You have a great eye for lighting on those beautiful little faces! And for catching smiles on faces and dancing in their eyes.
Except for the rooster. He doesn't look like he's in the mood to smile, but you did get a very nice portrait of him, all the same!

Sher, I just have to comment again...sorry!
I love the use of colors, textures, and focus in your portraits to convey a feeling that is different in each one.
And I admire your ability to capture four very different personalities so well--and all at the same moment in time--in the second picture!
The soft focus in the first one is very touching. The inclusion of tiny fingers and other details is fantastic, and yet they lead you back each time to the beautiful, dark eyes.
The crisp focus with the sparkly background in the third one also conveys a very "festive" spirit, with the little guy captured in what was probably a split-second opportunity!

Whew, that bug that took me down a week ago or so came back and bit me for a second time but I think I am back on the mend...LOL, glad the holidays are almost over, just have to get through New Years eve which is also my youngest son's birthday...LOL..he will be turning 20 (he is 10 yrs younger that my oldest). I can't wait to start the new year...LOL

I love taking closeups of people I know...LOL

Dutchbug - Pg 5 - Love how you catch each of these subjects in such natural "poses," at the very minute they are stopping and taking time to think about the photographer. You seem to have an excellent grasp on the thoughts and emotions being captured in their eyes.

JudyJuul - pg 5 - Love the angle on the first shot, and the baby's thoughtful expression--like she's thinking to herself, "What in the world have I gotten myself into?" lol!
Love that doggy, too!

Thanks, Sher. I enjoy photographing people if I can do it without "intruding" on their activities!

NiagaraJim - pg 5 - Love the restful expression on the dog's face. How did you ever get the balloon to last long enough for a photo?
The close up of the bird is really nice.

What a wonderful xmas, glad it's over but now I sit and look at all the stuff I have to do to get it all back to normal now, ugh!

Georgiann - Pg 4 - You know how to capture the lighting and expressions in a great way. Love the coloring in the first picture, especially, as it says "Christmas" to me!
Capturing the dog is hard to do, especially without getting those funny glare-spots in their eyes!

RiverNan - pg 4 - For someone who doesn't "do" portraits, you certainly do them well! Action and lighting of the eyes, skin and bottle in that one say it all--Plus the nice, natural smile!

Thanks, Frankie. He's as hard to photograph as the kids sometimes. Like me, he'd rather be behind the camera than in front of it!
