We are planning to go to Alaska early July. Rental cars are scarce as hens teeth! We have a hold on a 24' RV till the end of this week and trying to make that decision asap. We are used to pulling a large rig (24' trailer + 3/4 ton pickup), so I don't think driving it will be an issue. We will fly into Anchorage and visit southern coastal areas - Seward, Homer, etc. Anyone with experience driving a small RV in that area? Pros and cons of doing this?

It's not a problem, Alaska is geared for tourist. it's a fun way go once your up there. lock your doors.

Use a mirror, focus thru it to protect your lens and camera. you might be surprised at how intense the light is from a small fire cracker. At one time in my career I worked in the test area for thiokol Corp. our job was to photograph small scale rocket motors that were intentionally blown up. we had to stop down our lens and increase thew shutter speed a lot to get any thing visible. Good luck and have fun.

I’ll be spending next week in northern Utah visiting my son who is finishing grad school at Utah State in Logan Utah. Any suggestions for birds in flight spots within a couple of hours drive?
Thanks
Bruce

Bear River bird refuge, just west of Brigham City, Utah, one hour drive from Logan, Ut. It is a National bird refuge open to the public, probably the most water foul you'll find in the State of Utah. If you drive west of the visitors center a few miles there is an self serving auto tour that goes about four to six miles in a loop. It's a dirt road and the birds are within a few feet of the road often. I was there two days ago, saw a lot of blue herons, yellow headed black birds, terns, ducks, geese with babies, cinnamon teal, pelicans, grebes, etc., etc. from Bruce M.

If a Taos New Mexico workshop convenes in August, I will have a chance to spend six days or so prior at two or three national parks between Salt Lake City and Taos. I am looking at Capitol Reef in Utah and Mesa Verde in Colorado (and Durango). I’m thinking also of the Arches. I’ve been to Bryce and Zion.
I will be traveling by myself. I’m 86, healthy for my age, able to walk a leisurely mile or more if it’s reasonably level.
Is what I plan feasible? Is two nights the proper amount of time? Considering the distance, would I be better off with three nights and two parks? If so, which?
I have, of course, photographed other national parks, but I have not done any night-sky photography. Any thoughts on that?
Any thoughts at all?
Thanks.
David

I've lived in Utah all my 72 years of life, those area's are great to see. one thing to remember is that it is very Hot and dry that time of year. so have some way to cool off and stay hydrated.

Perhaps a good way to find the best camera is to count up every single accessory that a camera can use and match it up against every other camera and it’s accessories. A simple count would give us the winner. 😊😊

The best camera is the one you have in your hand.

My Gitzo GT3543XLS came with a center plate and a center post. you can use it either way. The legs will extend out flat so your only about 2 inches high.

I contract for a given number of photo's. you own the rest of them and if they are not up to your standard you will only hurt business by showing them. The client will show all your photo's good or bad to everyone that wants to see them.

I just connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable. That way I don’t have to remove the card from the camera.

I do the same with my Z7.
