Oh my, I didn't mean to sound abrupt or snooty, "worth a second look" only meant to convey that the combo would be the best of both pictures. My apologies, I hope I didn't offend you.

I understood. It's fine anyway. Everyone has their own taste so all comments are fair game. Thanks for commenting.

I prefer the sky in #1(more natural) but the rocks in #2

I guess I sort of agee with you. I may just try a combo. Another comment said rocks in the first one were sort of bleached out. I think that was bothering me also. Thanks.

The picture was taken in Cornwall earlier this year. About 10-15 minutes after sunset, at f22 on tripod with a 4 stop nd filter. I was trying for a very long exposure to blur the water. What i got was a too-dark picture without a lot of color. I shoot Raw, so i figured there was still a lot of info buried in the darkness. Didn't process the shot until few nights ago, mostly using adobe camera raw with some photoshop and a final touch of nik. I was, frankly surprised at what i was able to pull out, admittedly adding lot of warmth to the sunset in ACR.

Now the question...which version is better. In the first version i tried for a more balanced look to bring out the details in the rocks. In the second version i darkened the rocks and brought up the sunset in an attempt to draw the eye into the shot. Does either image do anything? HONEST comments.

My first try at creating a "panoplanet". My house exists on its own planet...pretty cool.

Looe, Cornwall, Houston Texas , wow that is one great zoom lens you have there
Seriously though, they are great shots.

It's not so much the zoom lens as it is the tripod that's the challenge.

Looe, Cornwall, UK just after sunset, with a Tamron 10-24 on a Nikon D7000. I could take pictures of boats all day long.

Thanks for the comment. I'm a Texan by choice, not birth. I do think the picture captures the essential Texas country feel,,,helps also that this is the famous Luckenbach of Willie Nelson fame.

My old man had one of these boats - a '58 Chrysler. Don't know where you got that "almost no passenger compartment" comment from. It was huge. Had to be with 7 kids. But it was a four-door model.

This was a two door coupe.

Really like your photo. Can you share what lens you used to get this shot? I recently bought the Sigma 8-18 and can't wait to find some clever places like this to try it out.. :-)

Tamron 10-24 lens. Shot at 10. Used three exposures +2, 0, -2. Blended using Nik software. Shot using A priority.

Cadugand - What year is the Chrysler? 58, 59?

Frankly I can't remember. I was driving through the countryside west of Houston, near a town called Gall Hill, when I passed a ramshackled building with a number of these vehicles in front. I'm a car enthusiast, so I pulled over. I was taking pictures when an old hippy came out of the house...friendly as can be. We talked a long time. He loved his stuff.

I don't know if the front view helps? Its not well focused. I was too busy talking with the owner.

Windser? Don't remember the maker. Chrysler, Dodge?
Chrysler..Here's the color pic..I got too fancy with the B&W and tried to manually merge several exposures, and didn't get them aligned properly.

Fins...where did these delightful features go on cars. This beauty was all fins and trunk...almost no passenger compartment. Heck why do we need a passenger compartment when we got fins?

Went up to the Texas Hill country last week looking for our famous wildflowers. Unfortunately photo ops were not so good this year, until I found a nice friendly bar.

You mentioned "focus stacking" on the pylon picture. Can you briefly describe software and technique? Thanks.

Ok... Maybe I answered my own question. To test the concept I shot 8 macro (clow up) shots each with slightly different focus points so that overall I had everything in focus from closest to furthest away, then using photoshop loaded all eight shots as layers...did edit auto align, then edit Blend layers, and I got a resulting image as a macro in good focus through the entire focal plane from close to far. I'll have to try this on landscapes. Hadn't thought of doing this on landscape pix until seeing yours. Thanks.

Hi sorry I didn't reply straight away ......

Thanks for the reply. I loved your pics. I frequently shoot 6 brackets or more for HDR, and with the addition of focus stacking I could easily see this getting massive. I'm going to have to give it a try though with the right subject. I use Nik for HDR. I imagine you can address the blooming with some careful masking.
