There were two flag raisings on Iwo. The 1st was with a smaller flag that was replaced by a larger one that Rosenthal captured on film in his iconic photo. I have an autographed picture of the First Flag Raising signed by Raymond Jacobs who is the radioman in the photo. I knew him as well as Joe Rosenthal who I used to have an occasional drink with in North Beach in San Francisco prior to his death. Semper Fidelis Sgt USMC 1955-1963
