Yes, I used to offer " free" delivery on my structural steel orders, but you know I buried an extra $165.00 in the profit on the order just because you didn't tell me & I went ahead and charged you... 😉 Never believe in "free" delivery. We even had a line we could put on the order that said "free delivery." Don't buy it! Will Call or pick all your products. rpm

Rick, I wasn't aware there were two places to display photos & in photo gallery it's frowned upon to be negative. I've probably been offending people for years and not known it... lol, so, I learned something. I'm placing mine in photo analysis because I'm always looking to learn. Makes sense to me! Thank you sir.

Mr. Indiana,
I totally agree. I'm going to see if Baytown Photography club is still active & if not surely one can find another photo club here in Houston to attend. Thanks, rpm

I would have considered a new(er) DX body for my DX lenses. But, maybe that's just me? I'd have looked at my computer and edit software, before dumping money into an FX body needing FX lenses. Again, maybe just me....

As a 7-year old DSLRosaur, hopefully, you purchased at a used & discontinued discount price, saving money for the necessary lenses. If you have nothing FX, I'd start with the 24-120 f/4 VR.

Well, I know I did not. I purchased it new from Best Buy. I'm sure I could have looked around for a less than prime body, but money isn't always the issue... Will be sure to look for some used lenses for the D850.
Mr. Canon, I've always wanted to tell you, you look exactly like a Max Reichenthal. He owns Texas Iron & Metal on Lockwood here in Houston. He's retired now, but his daughter runs it. But you look just like Max!

I'd like to hear more in response to the question about the OP's FX lenses on their new FX body.

It's working for now! Am I doing something wrong ?

You will be happy to learn that we now have something that both of us can agree on!! Happy?
But I have to add that the D850 can also reveal bad habits that (for me) have nothing to do with mediocre lenses. I wish I could blame them!

Hey there Retired CPO!
I remember you. I thought you blocked me. (You hurt my feelings commenting on my number of posts.)
Can't help it I'm a "man of few words" and a belligerent one too! lol We just got off on the wrong foot... anyway, yes, I updated to a Nikon D850 and couldn't be happier. I'm now on that learning curve, playing the fool until I become proficient with it. I do need some new lenses and know to get a VR lens. Any suggestions would help...
Thanks for stirring my pot & waking me up! Probably needed & deserved it. You ARE a CPO. And I'm sure you meant well... Thanks again, :-) rpm

Thanks Coolhand, made a note of that lens too. It's coming together this morning. Have the thing on a tripod watching u-tube videos. It's gonna be a fine piece of kit once I put it all together ! RPM

Rongnongno, I was wondering when somebody was going to give me grief about the whole affair. I admit, I'm a lot like this guy, if I could get a car with roll up windows and a distributor cap I would! Old ways are good ways sometimes... lol rpm

I have a lot of experience with my D850. VR in a mediocre lens (such as a 24-120 or 28-300) trumps absolute sharpness in a non-VR lens for handheld shots at relatively slow shutter speeds. It becomes irrelevant at shutter speeds of 1/1000 or faster or when using a tripod, neither of which is always an option. Increasing ISO to boost the shutter speed is not a perfect solution unless done in moderation. At some point, noise and reduced dynamic range become apparent. The bottom line as far as I'm concerned is to have at least one VR general purpose lens, the best you can afford, and just take pictures. Mine is the 24-120 f/4 VR. Be aware that non-VR lenses have some limitations with a camera like this, but they can bring out the best in this camera if you use them properly.

Therwol, good in-site and I agree with everything you said. Took some notes & will look into the 24-120 f/4 VR. Sounds like a good start for me. Thanks again, rpm

Quite a jump here...

The main thing you need to learn is that this camera is finicky in some ways, as are all high density camera. These cameras will register every motion that takes place, both in the scene and when you hold it.

Your solutions are simple: Higher ISO, Higher speed, greater stability when holding the camera or a tripod.

I have this camera and trust me it is an incredible tool. Check a sample here. Another

, using severe cropping that really makes the image worthless.

As several mentioned Steve Perry is a dependable source of information.

Rongnongno, yes, it's been a long time coming. Really should have upgraded so long ago but just loved shooting with my Nikon D40X and never really knew any difference. Ignorance is bliss I guess... maybe, maybe not ?
Thanks, rpm
