Illegal "recess" appointments, many presidential decrees, refusing to negotiate with congress, refusing to consider bills unless they contain what he demands, the list is legion. All you have to do is listen to and read the news with an open mind.

Can you please provide examples of his being dictatorial?

Thank you

If you reread my post it was not in response to your comment but to richard-sport , our resident left coast liberal. I would never mistake your comments as coming from a liberal.

Sorry for the double my tremor gets in the way sometimesI stayed with DOS as I could read and write so saw no need to be dumb ed down to pick out a picture ala a kindergartner. Finally switched to 98SE for many years then XP. Am now using Linux Mint and loving it. When there is an update it is installed in the background with no restart required. If an 80 yo old fart can learn to use Mint, anyone can. More useful than my slip-stick.

In Florida the number of positive drug tests was because there were a high percentage of previous recipients that did not participate in the tests thereby dropping out of the program, at least temporarily.

Larrymbst makes a good and real point about those "living off the public 'tit." They are nor parasites, but folks who have a real problem or have done their fare share and are older. Those abusing, as Florida found out with their drug test for aid regulation, found only a small percentage were doing so fraudulently. But such stories play well with the more conservative. Pork Barrel waste more than the fraudulent users do.

My first ride was on a Ford Tri-motor. The one thing that makes this more important is that some 50 years later a pilot was giving rides in a tri-motor in Kissimmee, FL. I grabbed my three kids (young) and took them up. After returning, the log was on display and in perusing it, I found that it was in Gainesville at the right time for it to have been the same plane.

Reading the title of this thread got my hackles up and I opened it to give you hell and ask you to get out. But before I began, I read the rest and found your premise was absolutely correct. The only thing I would change is to change "not" to "no longer". I regularly wounder about the quality of life my kids will have after I'm gone.

The 3 in DC circuit (Appeals) court are the ones O is pushing. Despite the MSN, very few have actually been nominated including several districts that are listed as severely understaffed.
RMM wrote:
There were more than three nominees being held up. If only three couldn't make it because of judicial bias, I doubt if anyone would have had a huge problem with it, or would have been motivated to modify the rules.

The responsibility of the Senate is to evaluate their academic qualifications AND their demeanor, ie, can the candidate render an unbiased opinion. There have been many cases at all levels reversed because of a comment made by the judge which indicated a prejudice or preformed opinion re the case or the individual. The three nominees, in the opion of some, have exhibited evidence of a strong activist bias.

Congress doesn't pick the nominees, their job is to ensure that they are qualified. Of the nominees whose appointments have been held up, please name those who are unqualified.

Have both parties played political games? Absolutely. But the Republicans have gone far beyond representing their constituencies. It's all about their all too open efforts to make Obama's job impossible. And this is why Washington has become so completely disconnected from reality. I don't have to be a fan of either Obama or Reid (and I'm not) to see this nonsense for what it is.

Have you ever had the opportunity follow a real, old fashion filibuster. I remember listening to one when I was young (listened as there was no TV)Too bad they dumbed it down as it was interesting. The filibuster existed to give the minority a voice. Now that voice has been quieted. The minority party, repub or demo, may as well stay home.

Oh come on...I read through the entire Constitution and couldn't find a thing that supported the filibuster so I thought I might have missed something.

I don't know that the filibuster has been around for 250 years. Certainly it has been in use for 160-170 years. Of course, the purpose of the filibuster was to allow UNLIMITED DEBATE.

Like so much, the filibuster was dumbed down years ago. Senators just had to say, "I'm going to filibuster xyz" and that was it. No debate, no nothing. Just phone it in. They didn't have to have a good reason, or any reason other than to obstruct. No need to defend their filibuster by actually having to stand up and explain. No debate was required or often even allowed.

Now a minority of one has lost the power to block a nominee. Too bad.

Interestingly, the House initially had filibuster rules in place. I guess things grew unwieldy as membership grew and rules were changed.

Sorry you feel reading the constitution beneath you. The constitution provides that each of the houses will determine their own rules. During the first congressional meeting, filibusters arose and led to the rule that they could be ended with a 2/3 vote, this was some 250 years ago thus is was established by precedence.Although this was later changed to 60%

You guys are hysterical. Please point me to the section of the Constitution that provides for the Senate doing as you fear?

And for all you Constitution readers...please quote the section that mentions that the Senate is required to pass all nominations (or anything besides veto overrides and impeachment for that matter) with a super majority? The filibuster is nothing but a rule that has been abused. Good riddance.

If the GOP feels so strongly about it, they can reinstate the rule when they next gain a majority.

This ruler finds the constitution an impediment to his plans. Add this to his disembowelment of the military generals and another 3+/- years remaining, anything is possible. The biggest impediment at the moment is an armed population.
