I know this word is over-used, but those are awesome! And interesting. I know absolutely nothing about IR photography, but it looks very cool.

I seen it just coming up over the rooftops, ran in and got the camera and tripod, and took a few. I thought this was the best of the ones I took, as it looks bright on top, and a cloud passing it on the bottom.

I have found that really good looking full moon photos are seemingly hard to get, where half moon photos seem to have a lot better detail- I guess a DOF thing? Also, I usually don't have a lot of luck with the moon low in the sky. It's harder on the neck, but when it is up high, a shutter speed of 1/125 or 1/250 is adequate. I think it helps with clarity, as the moon doesn't have as much time to move...and it's surprising how fast it moves, too. lol

Anyway, this was edited and obviously cropped. TV was 1/13th sec., AV was f/10, ISO 100, and focal length 235mm. Canon T3i and the 55-250mm kit lens.

I like them too. It's #3 for me too: I have seen too many shots like this that even with good intentions, they looked tacky or cheesy. This is certainly not one of those. Very nice.

I live fairly close to downtown Columbus, and have been wanting to get some skyline photos. I had no idea where to go for a good vantage point, and was originally planning to just scout out the area, but thought i'd take the camera along just in case. The Scioto River is on the West side of the city, so I knew I had to be West of there, with hopes of getting a decent water shot.

I found a great spot, took photos, went home and d/l them, and immediately started thinking of what I could do differently. I ended up going back the following Sunday evening for a different setting, and once again found a good spot to take photos from.

Heres a few of my favorites. You can critique them if you'd like, as that is a great way to learn. Please let me know what you think. Also, on the bridge with the blue lights, I am not crazy about the lightpole going straight up through the top of the frame, but also though it added a somewhat interesting touch with the different angles.

Not crazy about the top of the tower being blown out, but it seems theres not a lot I can do about it.

Sarge- Whats wrong...ya got stage fright? And too cold? It's not too cold- you just have to keep your tripod covered. LOL No actually, I just realized not too long ago how to save a RAW file as a jpeg...wasn't sure how it would upload, as I have never tried.

Anyway, thank you for the compliments. Both were taken with a Canon Rebel T3i with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, and shutter speed 1/40, aperture 3.5. The only difference was the ISO on the tree photo was 800, and the "Express building" was set at 400.

Heres two more...After returning to my car, which was parked on a street that was lined with lights, I had to take one of the hood and top. No big deal, I just thought the reflection of the lights was neat, especially on the top of the car.

Thanks again!
Greg

I took a few photos last Tuesday night at a local shopping mall. They were shot in raw, then converted to jpeg, so hopefully they will upload alright.

C'mon...theres still a LITTLE time left for 'em, although I am ready for Spring!

Heres one from the other night. It was somewhat windy, and the moon was directly above. I do not normally use "live view", but in this case, it was necessary.

Shot with a Canon T3i w/ 55-250mm lens, f/8, 1/250 sec., ISO 100-obviously cropped.

Hello Al. I lived on the West coast for 10 years (Crystal River), and went to Daytona pretty regularly. NSB, Ormond, Daytona, and a little further South- Ponces Inlet, are all great photo op's. The lighthouse is pretty interesting.

Hello everyone...I was referred here by my uncle, and just signed up. I have been interested in photography for quite some time, but have never really went at it full-tilt. I would consider it a hobby, but it is one of my favorite hobbies. I recently purchased my second DSLR, and only have two lenses- an 18-55mm and a 55-250mm. I hope to soon add either a wide angle lens or possibly a macro.

As for subjects, I like shooting transportation type things; cars, planes, trains, etc., and have been experimenting with moon shots. I also like action shots, but I am somewhat limited to only my sons baseball games.

I consider myself a novice, but want to learn, and can really have fun shooting just about anything- it's not always what you shoot, but how you shoot it. I also shoot everything in a custom mode, and usually in full "manual". Yea, I take some photos that are either under or over ezposed, but I think it is worth it. I also usually shoot everything in both RAW and JPEG. Anyway, I look forward to learning, and also interacting with fellow photographers!

Thank you,
Greg
