I gave up trying to scan negatives. Attached is a photo taken of a negative using a Nikon D850. It works just fine but trying to figure out what is on the negative is just too hard. Went back to scanning prints from the negatives.
There is another adapter for film strips. The Nikon D850 has imbedded software that makes it possible to photograph negatives and convert them into positives. I tried it but found it too cumbersome, especially because my negatives were not as well organized as the slides and you often cannot tell what is on the negative just by looking at it. I scanned 30,000 film-base prints using a flatbed scanner and Vuescan. It took awhile.
I'll try again to send the photo of my set up I use to copy slides.
Sorry, new to UHH. I am struggling to attach a photo to this text. I copied about 15,000 slides using this setup. The essentials are a Dx Nikon camera, 40mm f2.8 Macro lens, Nikon slide holder and a speedlight. I could photograph, upload and edit 100 slides in about 75 minutes.
Using the equipment in this photo, I could duplicate 100 slides in an hour. It took another 20-30 minutes to upload to my iMac, edit and file the images.
I have accessed UHH on my phone for many years but I just registered today. I love the discussions, especially the ones that are civil and constructive.
