The correct guidance.

Thank you for taking the time to respond appropriately to David's issue BebuLamar
I knew instantly what David's issue is and was appalled at the lack of skill set and knowledge by the lion's share of posters who responded *some* with an air of arrogance that they know it was impossible to control aperture on the Nikon D800 without using the sub-command dial. Really?
You are very kind and wise Thomas902, thanks for being so genuine.
There are UHH members in this thread that are repeated bad actor on this site... who's knowledge of Nikon's equipment is limited at best and their attitude toward other UHH members leaves much to be desired. They continue to be a liability to UHH and I honestly believe they should to rethink their mission here.

Sadly it is becoming increasingly obvious that there are very few UHH users who actually read/comprehend Nikon's manuals on the complexities latent in Nikon's high end bodies...

BTW: It is the same f9 option on the D800E and D810 to allow full aperture ring control...
There have been commercial product assignments that I've chosen to use Nikon's extension rings/tubes i.e PK-12; PK-13 etc which work well on AF and AF-D Nikkors (not so much on AF-S "G" "E" or "P" lenses) which allow full aperture ring control. Note: there are exceptions here such as the AF-S 300mm f/4D ED etc. which also allow full aperture ring control.

I have both the D800E & D810 and have invested the time to read each Nikon manual. They are extremely well written and highly accurate... The only anomalies I've discovered have been caused by firmware upgrades.

Wishing all the very best on your photographic journeys...
And please folks, think very carefully before you post and play nice, ok?

Do you update your firmware on your D800 E ? My firmware is still original on my D 800

See the manual on page 317.
Otherwise you will have to leave the aperture ring to the minimum aperture. You don't need to lock it. The lock is only to prevent the aperture ring moved accidentally.

Thank you so much for answering my question. I just read page 317 will try it.

It’s been a long time since I’ve use that type of lens, but I believe the fEE error indicates the Aperture Ring is not locked at the smallest aperture (highest f/stop number). Are you trying to shoot in S or P mode? If so you will need to set the Aperture Ring to the smallest aperture (highest f/stop number) then set the lever to lock.

Did set it to the smallest aperture. It used to be able to select other f stops when the lever was later released with it mounted. Now I just get the fEE error.

I am trying to change aperture when shooting with an infrared filter. This worked previously. I would move the lever on the lens ( minimum aperture lock lever) and I was able to select any aperture, now I just get fEE error.

Maybe I am off, but have you cleaned the contacts on the cam & lens? Try that and see if it works.

I did clean the contacts on both with a soft cloth.

I have a D800. I have a Nikon 50mm 1.8 D and a 50mm 1.4D lens. The ape rapture lock lever release works when the lenses are not mounted to the camera. Now when I mount the lenses to the D800 the lever moves but when I change F stops I get an fEE error. It always worked before, yesterday started getting the error. Is anyone familiar with this? If so how it fix it? I may have moved the aperture lock when the camera was in AF mode so guess this was my error.

Not much about a D800 that's not contained therein!
