I figured out over the weekend.

I took the camera and lens into a local camera shop to see if they might know what the issue was. Two guys looked at it but had no idea why the lens would not autofocus. We discussed that my D600 did have the latest C1.04 firmware update, but still, I left with my lens not being able to autofocus.

After getting home I read a post about a D600 no longer auto focusing with a Sigma zoom lens that had worked on that body before updating the camera’s firmware. It was not the same lens I have, but after going back to a previous version of the firmware their lens auto focused once again.

I did a little digging on the internet and found older versions of Nikon D600 firmware. I’m now using C1.02 firmware and L2.018 lens distortion control, and things seem to be working fine, auto focus and all. Firmware version C1.03 was also a no-go with this lens.

It seems most of what C1.03 and C1.04 deal with has to do with AF-P lenses. I don’t have any AF-P lenses. Most of my glass is AF-S G or AF D, etc. As a side note, C1.02 does allows for installation of L2.018 lens distortion control, C1.01 does not.

Thank you all for your welcome, and ideas on my lens issue. I got the issue figured out over the weekend.

Have you tried cleaning the lens mount and contacts on the camera with some circuit cleaner on a Q-tip?

Yes I have inspected and cleaned all contacts on the lens and body.

Welcome to UHH. Likewise I can’t assist you with your problem but have no doubt that someone will be able to help. This is a great place in many ways. And are you in Northern or Southern Oregon? Just curious.

I am in NW Oregon, just west of Portland. I did a few photo trips up to Mount Hood this past summer.

P.S. I noticed that with this lens attached to my D600 I can not access my AF settings on the top LCD display.

I just bought a used Sigma 12-24mm 1:4.5-5.6 II DG HMS lens. For some reason this lens will not auto focus on my D600, thought it gives focus conformation when manually focusing. However, this same lens will auto focus fine on my D300s.

With this lens on my D300s I can hear the lens motor snap the lens into focus, but when mounted on my D600 I don’t hear a thing, no motor or lens movement at all. The auto focus on my D600 works fine with all my other lenses be they Nikon AF or AF-S, Tamron lenses with and without focus motors. Even my DX lenses auto focus on my D600.

Both camera bodies have the most recent firmware updates for both the camera and lens data. Might anyone have any clues as to why this lens will not auto focus on my D600? Could it be something in my settings I’m missing, issues with the updated firmware, or something else?

Hi all, I have been reading the Ugly Hedgehog for a few years and have now finally registered. I got into photography as a child in the late 60’s. Then in 1970 we moved to Rochester NY for a couple of years while are farther attended RIT. By this point my mother was into photography as well, and we had dark room with an enlarger, B/W only.

I have been shooting Nikon DSLR cameras for nearly 15 years now. I started with a D40x, then added a D3200 later, both are gone now, but a friends is still using that D40x. I now have a D600 and a D300s. I’m planning on getting a D800 soon.

I just bought a Sigma 12-24mm 1:4.5-5.6 II DG HMS lens. This lens will not auto focus on my D600, thought it will give focus conformation manually focusing. However, this same lens will auto focus on my D300s. Both camera bodies have the most recent firmware updates for both the camera and lens data. Would anyone have any ideas as to why this lens will not auto focus on my D600?
