As I explained in a previous post I am still learning to navigate this site.
Not all of us are as fault-free as you seem to be.
Some of us are merely ordinary men with ordinary intellect.
But before I will bow down to you and your criticism I will leave this site and find another.
Our words and actions define us and I don't much like who you define yourself to be.
I will not be talked down to or tolerate your ignorance.
Out of here
To Longshadow:
I agree with your post.
While you take the philosophical point of view others will likely take that of the mechanical point of view.
Both have their place because passion rules both sides.
My response was to Architect1776.
I am still learning to navigate this site.
Things are not so simple any longer at my age but I still plod on.
Go Airborne! My favorite cousin was 101 and did 3 tours in Nam.
He finally made the ultimate sacrifice.
As to your post reply, thank you for the input about Canon.
I am familiar with the statistics and quality of Canon.
I would not hesitate to go that route if it were not for past memories of a past life dealing with an ex-wife.
At my age, I should not allow triggered memories to affect my present life but that is one of the human frailties that is difficult to overcome.
I acknowledge Canon's superiority in certain areas, including customer service, but I am not yet ready to pull that trigger.
I did do some serious research on the 77D and was very impressed with it in that price range.
I have recommended Canon to my second son who is in the market but I suspect he wants a full-frame camera.
Joexx,
I have been running Topaz Studio 2 along with Adjust 5 and Simplify for a very long time and could not be more pleased. Studio 2 is amazingly versatile.
Topaz products are excellent for my needs.
I do not have AI and I am contemplating getting it but I am not sure I need it.
I canceled my PS and bought Elements 20 to use in conjunction with Topaz and have never looked back.
I am neither a pro photographer nor am I a Pro editor but everyone seems impressed with what these two can do.
Thanks, Barry.
I wasn't aware of the 1" sensor so for now, at least, I will have to pass.
I have found a very good deal on a D5600 that will perfectly suit my needs.
However, I have done some research on your FZ1000 and found it to be very nice for all-around photography so I will be checking back in a couple of months to see if it is still available, providing I have the money then.
Thank you all.
Greyfox...I found a D5600 with a 154 shutter count in excellent condition for $539 at MPB.com.
Will decide before the day is over.
How is this camera for portraits, say somewhere in the 10-15' range?
Shopping around and researching used cameras for teen & adult family portraits.
I currently do just fine with an LX7 when shooting smaller grandchildren who do not feel uncomfortable with the camera and myself being so close.
I never realized until recently that being in such proximity, even to a loved one, made me uncomfortable too.
I also just realized that instead of shopping for a camera I need to consider the price of lenses from a given manufacturer first.
I knew that lenses could get pricey, to say the least, but I see that some budget lenses from some makers are still beyond what I consider an acceptable range.
As an example, I found a used X-T30 that I was willing to consider but could not find an affordable lens for it.
My tastes are simple and my main focus is image quality, not glitz and bells and whistles that I do not have the experience to use.
A Nikon d3400-d5600 in the right range for the model would be fine if I could find an acceptable one and will continue looking.
But I am hoping that someone here will be able to guide me in the right direction.
I have also found a d600 & d610 but am terrified of the possibility of the dreaded oil marks and dust on the images.
I have no experience with Canon but would like to hear if the image quality is on par with Nikon.
My price range is a little flexible but I will not go beyond $800.
I have seen some incredible member images and I consider these an art form, but I do not need that quality; just good clear images that will seldom exceed 8x10.
Any help will be appreciated.
Is there a section of this forum for members selling cameras?
Thanks, Ken
Truly an esoteric man who has acquired wisdom as well as freedom.
While I admit my track record of betting on football and boxing matches is abysmal I have been pretty accurate in betting on Apple and others in the industry, especially Israeli Startups and the U.S. weapons industries offerings gleaned from Janes.
If I got the details of the story wrong it is because I spoke too soon.
I generally wait a few days to a week for the news to get the stories accurate.
In today's farcical reporting of fake news, the semi-factual & outright lies seem to be the norm.
I will wait it out to see how much truth is in the story.
If true it changes nothing. If false it changes nothing.
Apple will either stay strong or come back stronger
I just cannot believe Apple employs fools or idiots to protect the integrity of its security in Thailand.
If Mac Book Pro plans or schematics were hacked then it is entirely possible that Apple had previously set up
bogus documents just for that purpose and stored the real plans in a much more deeply encrypted predesignated area.
With the exception of the Pentagon, DIA, NSA, Ft. Detrich, et al, few on the planet have better security than Apple.
You could break into the evil Scientology headquarters in California easily by comparison which is no mean feat.
I am not currently running Mac but I have in the past and will again.
No product is perfect, even Linux but I trust Apple products completely.
I currently run a Z97 based Asus workstation motherboard that I built 10 years ago and if it ever lets me down I will probably go for a Mac Mini M1.
At the present, I am heavily invested in Windows and Ubuntu.
Of course, heavily invested is a relevant term.
My two functioning cameras combined are worth less than $700 but I know most everyone on this forum would probably have to go into therapy if they were suddenly in my position. LOL
I am there by choice though. I have no interest or plans to buy into a professional rig because my main concerns are editing and the art that can be made from digital images.
I drank my share of the Kool-Aid years ago collecting guns and I still enjoy photographing them for friends.
I am not easy but I suppose anyone can be had.
I am somewhat jaded but these miniatures inspire me.
I haven't kept up with techniques and technology very much but I do have some software and an imagination.
I am in the middle of packing and preparing for a move in April but hope to explore and learn to do some similar shots in the future.
