AikenMooney,

Your camera experience is almost exactly like ours. I used Nikons for years (as I used in Croatia 10 years ago in my previous post); however, I have since moved to the Olympus/OMDS system and now take my OMD OM1 plus the 12-100 f 4.0 and 7-14 f 2.8. My wife carries my older EM1MkII with the 14-150. It works out fine for us on trips in cities and countrysides. For our upcoming safari trip to Africa in two weeks, I will drop the WA and add my 100-400 5.0-6.3 for daylight animal shots and my 40-150 f 2.8 for low light conditions. The stabilazition afforded by the Oly lenses and OM 1 camera makes taking low light images at lower ISO much easier. Now, if I can get that night animals to stop moving that would be great! Earl

Really, really close as those are the 2 lens I have used in Africa. Yes, OM1 handles low light much better than the previous Oly's. I use Topaz with LR & PS.
Our 14-150 gives very nice images & is compact for that zoom range. Only difference is she has it on Mk III.
Happy travels.

We are planning a 9-day trip to Croatia starting in Zagreb and working our way down to Dubrovnik. For those of you who have been, do I need to take a wide-angle lens to shoot the Plitvice National Park? Or the walled city in Dubrovnik? I'd like to travel as light as possible, but don't want to miss a great photo op because I left a lens at home. I'm definitely taking my Z6ii and the 24-70 f/2.8. Thanks for any advice.....

Dubrovnik is great & I would suggest a WA. If on tour with others changing lens can be a problem as you probably know so maybe a one lens solution is better. To me a WA takes more planning to get nice images.
Traveling light is nice but means different things to different people.

In my case I went from Nikon back to Oly/OMDS. For that trip I would carry 12-100, 7-14 & fast prime.
My wife would have a 14-150 on her camera.

Enjoy your trip, we hope to get back to Dubrovnik.

You can spend as much as you like for a fast GPU, but a 3060 with 12GB is a good compromise between performance and price, and works fine with every PP advanced application I’ve tried it on - expect to pay $320-370 - painful (compared to your CPU), but that’s the price of powerful AI SW. be sure your power supply has the capacity and the correct connector to power the 3060 (or whatever card you decide.) You may find this chart which shows percormance and price for just about every graphics card helpful: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Thanks, confirms what I have read. Prices I have seen are $350-370. Easiest, quickest & less expensive way for me.

I can almost 100% guarantee that it will not work with those AI features. It is a very ancient card from 2014. My own relatively low end GTX 1050 Ti card has 750% of the relative processing power of your card and even my card, on the low end for serious AI functionality, may struggle with some of the new demanding AI features.

I agree with you. I also have a 1050 TI & am thinking of replacing with a GeForce RTX 3060. I was in the computer shop yesterday asking if the 3060 would fit in my computer they built 3 years ago. They said it would go in same as the 1050 did.

Topaz & now Adobe AI need more than 4 GB. From what I have read you need 8-12 GB. My 1050 is slow with Topaz & would expect same with Adobe but haven't had time to really test it.
My 1050 was very good until AI made its entry.

I had never seen that problem & I have been using LR since beta 1 for Windows in 2006 or 2007. I have been using dual monitors for almost that long.
I just tried it with LRC 12.3 & an getting same result as you did. I assume (bad to do) a bug in ver 12.3.
Will file bug report with Adobe.

Tony Phillips has come out with a new book on the OM-1. Are his books any good?

This is only book I have from TP & I find it very helpful, certainly compared to the OMDS manual.
To me, it was a good purchase.

We have been in June, July & very early Aug. I think it might be but suggest you check with travel agent or tour operator you will use there. Obviously, the days will be getting much shorter.

Listen Up- there is NO Shame in upgrading your camera equipment even if only for GAS! If you want it and you can afford it then go for it. You don't need anyone's permission here to do that. You don't need anyone here setting limits on what you buy or how often you buy or if you should buy. If you have a closet full of unused equipment that is your business.

Will it make you a better photographer? Maybe or maybe not. But it will be fun to find out. New equipment will often push you forward to becoming better by the technical advances. It may help you see improvement which may be the catalyst for more improvement.

Why is it there is honor in using outdated equipment? It is often said here that my (really old) equipment works just fine. Well that's fine for you but don't use it as a measure of why someone else should not buy new.

It use to be fun here seeing members say "The Brown Truck is coming and then it fell out of favor followed by other members denigrating the purchase of new equipment. (yes- I have been on this forum for a long time) Why- why taint new equipment purchase with underlying negative judgement? There are real advances in new cameras now that can achieve results that older cameras can't- ISO improvement, focus, reduced size and weight, focus stacking, interval and video results and many other advances.

So let's not treat our members as children but as thinking adults. We should be responding to the implied question of what did you gain by updating not should I update. And GAS is ok.

You can download a trial version of PSE and make a decision if PSE makes any more (or less) sense to your photo edit needs than LR.

Unless there's an economic reason to stop the subscription, it would make more sense so spend time with all the free video training available directly from Adobe (training your subscription pays for) and completely free via u-tube. You may find you know more than you think. Or, maybe after all this time, some things finally begin to make sense when you watch the video along with the explanation.

BTW: the subscription started roughly 2016 so you've vastly overstated the idea of 15-years of subscription. I'm not sure you even could have been using any version of LR for a full 15 years as of Aug 2021. Nevertheless, the product is the best of breed with the largest group of users in the industry. You're in the club, your best action is to stay here.

Adobe released LR beta for Apple in Jan 06. I started using beta for Windows in summer of 06 so 15 years is possible.
I was changing camera systems at that time & decided to give it a try. I went to East Africa in Aug 06 with new Nikon cameras & new beta LR software. Yes it did crash a few times but it did work. I still have 565 NEF files from that trip. I then put my ORF files from 2 trips in 2005 in LR & processed them & were better than the Oly software at that time. Still using LR today with about 80,000 images. Amazing how I can process those images in the latest ver & have a much better image. I love LR & some hate it. Just personal choice. I do think that a lot of the people that don't like it have never bothered to learn the file system.

What is the down load speed recommendation for a Memory Card for my Olympus OM-D E M1-MK III camera. It has the burst mode capability.

You have a great camera & if you want best performance then use UHS-II card in top slot. I was using SanDisk but never used write protection switch so now use 32 GB Sony Tough cards in top slot of M1 Mk II & III. I shoot wildlife & BIF so I need a fast card, especially using Pro Capture.
If not interested or don't need speed then SanDisk UHS-1 32 GB cards are excellent & much less expensive.
Enjoy your camera & whatever card you.
