As an award-winning pro photojournalist of over four decades I have covered all GOP and Dem Presidents and candidates since I was a white house photo intern under Pres. Gerald Ford (A Republican).

Found this shot of then Senator Joseph Biden campaigning in one of his unsuccessful runs for the Dem. Presidential nomination , here campaigning at the National Convention of the NEA (National Education Association) in Wilmington, Delaware. When I looked at the image data, I saw that I had taken this photo with a Canon 30D camera and a 70-200mm Canon lens. This photo has been published countless times around the world.

So yes the Canon 30D can and has made countless professional quality images. It is more about your skill, knowledge and creative vision than the equipment. I used all generations of Nikon and Canon gear for decades and now use Sony gear. I have made great shots with all of them. Cheers

Isn't that the truth. I started out with some really decent, but not great Nikon and Canon film cameras. I even had a Minolta 7000i as I was 13 and 21 for the 7000i, which by the way I bought on my own. The rest of the gear was from my parent's wallets, they just wanted to make sure that I was going to stick with it. Well, I did and now I can say that I produced some very nice shots on film and still have them today. My parents let me, age 17, tour with Led Zeppelin on their North American tour and I must say, I turned out some nice work back then. I remember going over pics with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page and they were awestruck by my work. So, I was lucky and sometimes that beats out being good.

Welcome aboard! Your EOS 30D and the various lenses are all more than capable of capturing wonderful images. If you compare your work to others, especially here on UHH, keep in mind the images are all processed digitally after being captured by the camera. You may have to 'work' a bit harder with older equipment, but flowers, bees and insects are excellent subjects for the 75-300 lens. You might want to consider a tripod for the non IS-enabled lenses for detailed work, but not required. Here's an example for the same lens and a similar camera, a Rebel XTi.
