Have a built in microwave works well but rust spot
Periodically wire brush to cleab metal and paint with microwave paint
Plan to keep until a hole develops
Is this common? Why?
Should I replace now?
Appreciate ideas and comments
Thank you

Trying to decide vacation gear Tamron 18-200 DX , D5200 or Z50 plus FTZ
Size almost identical! Weight a little less Z50 plus Ftz, lighter but almost same size Nikon 20-200 DX
Thought Z would win by far.
What is really small is Z Dx pancake lens, may take that one

A CPL filter has two filters. The first is a rotatable linear polarized filter to block light entering which is at 90 degrees from the alignment of the linear polarizer plane. The second filter is a Quarter wave plate which retards/changes the polarized light into unpolarized light so that auto focus and metering can function properly. The film surface or digital sensor wouldn't know the difference. Don't ask me how quarter wave plates work. I just viewed several videos explaining the physics and my head exploded.

The purpose of a CPL is to give you control over strong reflected light entering the lens because reflected light is highly polarized. Think sun reflecting off a pond or off a glass window.

I think you are correct
It is autofocus and metering, although early through the lens metering Cadmium disulfide in Mamiya Sekor worked well with simple polarizers
I think it has to do with how light reaches photosensor for exposure.
Quarter wave plates are used on microscopes to diagnose uric acid crystals ( gout) , we used a layer of scotch tape , same effect. Optics is fascinating

Z fc + FTZ have both Tamrons work great with this combo
Highly recommend ZFc not only looks great easier to use thank to dials
Only complaint no build in flash only one customizable button, conoared to Z50 which I bought first
So far all my Dx lenses work great

Z50 and. Zfc
Love silent mode, should be mandatory in press conferences.
Agree image not as good as on SLR , very difficult to manual focus, what saves the day are focus aid, a red outline.
Best feature see histogram and what you see is pretty much what you get.
A convert.

Bad teleconverters: very short of money as young resident unhappy about T mount 135 preset Vivitar short reach fell for Spiratone “ variable” teleconverter if I can remember over 1/2 Century ago 2 to 3x.
Invariably fuzzy images and up to 3 stop loss!
Kept me away from teleconverters until 1.4 x for Sigma 200-600. A different story.

The Nikon 400f2.8 s has a built in 1.4 extender. You just flip the lens element into the barrel of the lens or out to the enclosed holder that is built into the right side of the lens barrel to switch from 400 2.8 to 560f4.

Wow! What a lens

The Nikon Z TC-2x. Yes, it's a full frame sensor on the Nikon Z9.
They are both shot at f10 with +0.3 exposure compensation. The sparrow is 1/1,600th of a second ISO2,000, while the wren is in direct sunshine so it's 1/3,200th of a second ISO 2,000. I do have a steady tripod, but these are hand held. I only use a tripod for long exposure photography.

Thank you! Which was 1.4 extender?
Amazing

I decided to post these images because of recent discussions about whether or not people should use 2x extenders. I know these are birds, but putting them in the bird subsection will prevent the converter discussion.
The photos are taken with a Nikon 400f2.8s lens. The built in 1.4 converter is being used and coupled with a 2x converter. The wren also has a 5mm extension tube for closer focus.
So, the question is are these photos sharp enough, or should people not use the converters and attempt to gain the extra reach by cropping. I believe that any loss of image quality from using the converter is more than offset by the additional reach and the ability to come closer to filling the frame, but I thought it would be interesting to see where any discussion would go. Those of you who believe that no one should use teleconverters, go ahead and have your say. The photos will be posted in the first reply.

Which 2x converter did you use?
Looks great for 11200 equivalent ! That is 22x compared to 50 mm
Did you actually use full frame sensor and 2 teleconverters or 1.4 factor refers to DX sensor?
F/ stop and speed?
You must have rock steady tripod
One difficult I have shooting with very long lenses is finding subject, often zoom out to find the. Zoom in with Sigma 200-600 and then realize how crummy my tripod is

Love GPS usually Google maps, even shows traffic.
Only one time had problems:
In the mountains around Madrid, Spain ( Sierra) looking for an small town on winding country lanes. All of a sudden road dead ends in a farm. An old goat herder approached us, smiling, and said “ using GPS?” He then showed us correct route. Apparently there was a glitch in maps and he had redirected several tourists before.

Fantastic! I missed shooting “ Diamond ring”, trying to find sun, handholding due to crummy tripod but effect on sight is stunning. In Dallas very cloudy when suddently extremely bright very white spot grew rapidly in size.
Sigma 150 ? Did you crop? Full frame sensor?
To get decent size sun on DX Nikon Zfc had to use 150-600 Sigma at 600 plus 1.4 teleconverter
Macro… Shows how well “ macro” lenses work at infinity
Again thank you for sharing amazing shot
