Hi Jim,

I am a little unsure as to whom is buying your lens.

I do not have your address so I'm empirically guessing the lucky guy isn't me.
Would love to send the check if I am wrong.

Confused as to how one would obtain personal information on this forum if one doesn't have 600 plus posts.

On a limb here so my cell# is 805-610-5277 not sure how else to rectify interest since I am on the road. I will express ship funds as desired.

Thank you Jim for your integrity either way.
Cheers, Riggs

Dietxanadu,

I recommend driving up the coast to get away from persistent normality to find what it is that will rejuvenate your creativity. You can PM me if you plan to make it up to the Morro Bay area, be a pleasure to meet you.

Roger, thank you for your investment in this group, your expertise and professionalism is greatly honored by myself, many others.

I thoroughly appreciate the attention to detail in each photograph, sentence and explanation of each photo's detail, including history thereof.

Much appreciative Riggs

Without people such as yourself, forums such as this would be a mere waste of time

Amazing how fast the lever action is when you can see two casings very close to each other.

I'm guessing your shooting at 1/8000 or very close to it with primes?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Frank,

Always love to see pics of the coast.
Shot a lot of film when I lived there, wish I still had it all.

Just a personal perspective but it looks like the second shot with the clouds looses definition due to overexposure.

I have done this too many times myself, finally learned.
Were you using auto exposure? I have learned to stop down one or two stops for detail shooting afternoon clouds.

Cheers, Riggs

I am Right handed, left eye dominant. Seems to work well for me ergonomically, always leave smudge on LCD. For what it's worth, leave right eye open for ease.

I sometimes use magnifying glasses to help with close focus issues, this helps with video as well.
Hope this helps.

I have the 2.8 and love it. for speed there is no comparison, the weight doesn't bother me and I shoot with out a strap.
The extender is great on that lens
Good luck with your decision.

I have been using the Sanho HyperDrive for well over a year, has been a savior. It will "lock up" when downloading when the temperature is hot but that has not been a big deal.
At 500GB, it stores all my video as well even though you can't view it.

I would be very interested and grateful for further knowledge.

I'll be using a f/1.8, 50mm lens. My only other options are the f/4.5,18-55mm that came with the camera and a f/4.5 70-200mm. I'm assuming the latter two lenses wouldn't allow enough light.[/quote]

Hi Christy,

Your 50mm 1.8 will work fine assuming proper access. However you might try the 18-55 in a mocked-up lighting scene to see how it might do. I use a 17-55 2.8 with very good results. I just shot four songs for a friend Sat. nite and it turned out very well in a dark environment.

My main concern is the audio capture, you will see what you are getting through the camera but if the audio is distorted it will greatly reduce the pleasure of whatching/listening your video.

An attenuator (available at B&H and many other sites) screws to the bottom of your camera, plugs into your Canon and has two XLR connectors to plug in mics. You can use just one mic for mono, not a big deal.
The attenuator has knobs to adjust the audio level coming into the camera, I would bring them up about half way depending on how close you are to the amplifier, sound source. Your son should know where to borrow the mics and mic-stand for the show, might already be there!

I paid $150 for my attenuator, there are many out there, you can also use a small mixer but that is tough for a one off in a setting such as this.

The Rhode camera mics are good but pick up sound all around ie onmi direactional. I recomend a close mic that you can place close to the source and reduce ambient sounds, you will get them anyway!

Hope this help Christy, Riggs

Hi Christy,
You will want a 16GB card and depending on proximity to the audio source you will need to attenuate the audio coming in to the camera via an off board mic. Loud audio, music, can over modulate the input to the camera causing distortion.

This is not hard to do but does offer some benefits:
1) Lets you place the mic(s) close to source, ie: unobstructed
2) Eliminates the doppler effect, frequency and phase shift of moving audio source ( like when a train goes by as observed standing next to the tracks)
3) Reduces unwanted sounds that you can not remove once recorded.
I can elaborate as needed if your'e interested Christy, the difference is remarkable.
I have been recording music for a very long time and shooting it since the 7D came out.

Best, Riggs
