Very impressive. Learned a lot about composition, perspective, and color. Also really thought they were just super photos. Thanks for posting them.

You have received great replies especially the one referring to the Aquatic Gardens, the Arboratums, and the C& O canal. If you have more time after Great Falls, continue on to the Pennyfield Lock. For closer bird photos use Patuxent Research South Tract. If it comes to a choice between Gettysburg and Antietiam, choose Antietiam for the closer drive and the very scenic auto tour route. All the other suggestions are worth while. Consider returning to D.C. often!

Great Spotted Owl photo. Can really see the difference between the Barred and Spotted Owls comparing the two photos.

Thank you for sharing these great Barred Owl photos. The lacing under the head, stripes on its chest, and lack of spots on the head eliminate Spotted Owl. The habitat strongly favors Barred Owl over Spotted Owl.

You have received some great responses, especially the one that provided comparative pricing. I use the R7 for grandchildren and their events and also for bird and landscape (at which I stink, but keep trying) photography. The 18mm wide angle on the kit lens is great and the camera performs very well in low light. The high MP density also provides much more editing performance even if you shoot JPG and not RAW. The incamera image stabilization also helps in low light situations. See if you can rent both the R6 and R7 and do some comparison shooting and also editing.

I agree with the responses to your topic. My "solution" (yeah, right!) is to make photobooks of family vacations and trips with my wife and give a copy of the vacation book to the family, but only make one copy of the wife only trip book for the two of us. Every few years I will make a photobook just for myself.

During Covid I shared a photo a day with my neighbors - any subject from flowers, to birds, to scenery - along with a cheerful thought. It was surprising how different neighbors reacted to different photos. One neighbor had a painting business and really enjoyed my photo of a lighthouse being painted. At this point am just putting some photos up on facebook once in a while.

What SD cards are you using?

I am using San Disk cards. Ended up setting up slot 1 for photos and slot 2 for videos which I believe is the default. During my first week of testing used twin 32 meg. Am now on vacation and am using twin 64s at 130 rate. These cards suit my use very well.

I agree with Eastern Kingbird id. Bill is too thick for a swallow. The tail shows a narrow white band which Tree swallows do not have.

Hi All: Was concerned that Best Buy was advertising Canon R7's for delivery the weekend of July 16th and 17th as a come on for advance orders. Not so! On July 12th placed an order online for pickup on the 17th, received a text that it was available and obtained it on the 16th! This camera is very intimidating even for me as a 77D user. Have spent several hours on introductory videos. What is the purpose of 2 memory slots? Is there any instructional site to recommend set up for wildlife (primarily bird) photography? Think I will be learning this camera for many years.

Thanks for creating this discussion.
Curmudgeon wrote:"... I both take photographs and create pictures. My photographs are Post Processed because I shoot in RAW. My photographs represent what I saw not what the camera captured. My pictures represent anything I can imagine and may or may not represent reality."
I strongly agree with that statement. Digital photography gives us the opportunity to use our photography for a variety of purposes. I document bird sightings, try my hand at landscapes and cityscapes, and create family albums. Many times I also try to create an "artistic" - for lack of a better word - image using the effects postprocessing software provides.
Perhaps we need a new more modern definition of photography.

I now agree with the Wood-Peewee call. Not enough yellow, shape is right and not contrast on the head. Great exchange on bird identification.

Thank you for telling us where the photo was taken. I believe the bird is a Great Crested Flycatcher. My reasons for eliminating Wood Peewee and Phoebe remain. The Great Crested Flycatcher overlaps their ranges in southern Ontario.
