Yes, the RX100 M5 has a larger amazing sensor, but the zoom is only 24 to 70mm (35mm Equivalent ) while the HX99 optical zoom is 24-720mm (35mm Equivalent). Also the B&H price on the RX100 M5A is $848 (I don't see just a RX100 M5, though other sites sell it used).

Gorgeous!!

What about the Panasonic Lumix LX10? Sold for about $800 when first introduced but now for about $479. Can anyone weigh in re this model?

I agree with billnikon. Yes, the Sony HX99 is more than $350 at $473 (B&H) but after a few months and some gorgeous photos, you'll forget about the extra $123 and know you have the best pocket camera on the market. I tried out both the Panasonic Lumix ZS80 and the HX99 and returned the Panasonic.

I'm new to shooting raw and never heard of Exposing To The Right. Thank you for your clear explanations.

Great advice since it does seem like the gimbal head is not the most appropriate for my purposes or equipment. I'm only 76 so as they say, "it's never too late..." I'll get a couple of 5 or 10 pound weights.

So you know the camera's limitations. I have the Topaz suite but have mostly used Sharpen. I'll try bumping up my ISO to 800 and using deNoise. Thanks.

I'm shooting using manual setting with floating ISO, so I can certainly increase the shutter speed. I mostly shoot at 1/1250. I captured this barn swallow yesterday without a tripod.

Thanks, Will use a faster shutter speed next time.

Guess I could have used a faster shutterspeed here too.

Thanks. The male usually eats the head of the fish before taking the rest to his family in the nest.

Absolutely. I only have 1 photo of a bald eagle so far. It was in Lassen National Park. The Osprey nest is 15 minutes from my home.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I'm already using a lightweight (2.4#) camera but can't get the handheld shots as sharp as I can with a tripod. Maybe "birds in flight" is not the best way to describe what I'm looking for. I'm more interested in getting them as they take off or just before landing. A tripod really helps here because I can keep it focused on the bird as long as it takes and be ready for it to move.
