Don't misunderstand me, but I think the best thing to do to remedy your dilemma is to buy a smart phone with a
good camera. That way you'll never leave home (or your car) without it. Might sacrifice a few pixels and sharpness, but it would solve your problem of worrying about the camera being fried or frozen in the car.
The last one could be named Dronemous flightamus.
My first car was a '40 Willys coupe. Four cylinder. Looked a lot like a '40 Ford with a long slope back. I paid $50 for it in '54. Nice little car but absolutely no frills, but back then hardly anybody had any frills. I understand that later on the Willys bodies became highly sought after for dragsters.

I'm also in San Antonio and have a roadrunner that pays occasional visits to my back yard, but never stands still long enough for me to get a shot. Interesting birds. Ever see one kill a rattler??
A '53. Note the sergeant stripes on the grill. I bought one in '57 (Jr. year in college) for $300, and ran the wheels off it. Great flat head V8. Had 4-60 AC- (roll down four and drive 60) no power steering, brakes etc. but Did have a good radio and a heater, but that's about all. Only had two white walls so I put both on the right side. Great little car.
-Just got back from a couple of days fishing at a friends small ranch (3,000 acres) near Carrizo Springs, probably close to where you were. This is where everything either sticks, stings or bites.
Only saw two rattlers. Really have to watch your step!!
