I just wanted to give an update. We adopted the two runts. All the rest of the puppies were adopted on the first day they were available. I posted progress pictures to the Humane Society as they grew up. They in turn put on their website. There was a waiting list!! The power of pictures.. Even mama was adopted.
That to me is the most worthwhile thing I have done with my camera.
Bandit-He earned that name & still does.
Freckles - Can you see why the name?
Brother & sister - chair height
Thanks for the complement. I need to get my camera out again and do some more. Life gets too busy. Photography helps us slow down and appreciate our surroundings that we tend to take for granted.
Wow. Great shot of a lifetime.

All I can say is Thank God it's in NY. Otherwise I could see myself having 6 dogs instead of 5 LOL.
I know the feeling. We have three rescue beagles and I guess we are keeping one puppy. We really would like to keep the Mom as she will be the last to probably be adopted. She is an excellent house dog. The problem is she eats through the wire dog fence to get to the rabbits on the other side - five times she has broken it. We now tie her out or walk her.

First of all I LOVE your two close ups...even the soft one is cool.
Second...good for you for allowing nine peepy poopy babies in your house. The world needs folks like you
Third....wait till they are exhausted.
Finally why worry...you have some great shots there.
You are kind. I guess the law of averages - take 10 discard 9 and keep one.

They should be snapped up pretty quickly..Every one is adorable. My family used to run beagles in field trials and there were always five or six running around the house.
We had one litter of 11 pups one time, ten survived and Momma decided that my lap was the place to have them.
Wow. Our Mama was in labor for 12 hours with the nine.

When you set the camera to take several pictures one right after the other. Nikon calls it continuous.
Got it. I tried it, but I didn't have the camera on the tripod. Gives me something to experiment with tomorrow.
Thanks.

I am fostering 9 puppies for our local Humane Society. They move so fast, I am having problems focusing and getting good pictures when they are on the move. Any suggestions would be helpful.
I agree with the advice about a Kodak. Get a red or bright colored one. You can get a package that comes with the direct printer that goes from camera to printer, bypassing the computer and editing. They have automatic settings for night shots, bright scenes, action, etc. It is a good stepping stone for a 13 year old.
On sale, I paid less than $150 for camera, printer, paper, print cartriges, camera case, batteries, 1 picture card, and cables.
Put your camera in a sequence of shots so you only have to hit the shutter once and it continues taking pictures. I will get my camera set up with focus, shutter and aperature - set them and then wait for the next flight and start shooting before the plane is in my viewfinder. If it takes 20 shots in a row it is bound to get one good one. I use law of averages rather than photography talent.
I found that I have no "drive menu". The camera must be in p,s,a,or m and then hit the sequence button. That brings up 4 icons on the screen. One of which is single shot. That is why I couldn't find it because I was always looking in the various menu options.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
I found it. When the camera is set in "m" manual mode, "p" mode or "a" or "s" for aperture or shutter priority, push the small button on the top of the camera. It is between the on/off and shutter buttons. This brings up four options shown by icons on the screen. The top is single shot and the others are various multiple shot options. Try it. Make sure you remember how to reset, unlike me that didn't realize what I did so I could undo it!!
