Sad to hear you’re leaving the Nikon family. I purchased the Sony 24-600 bridge camera model IV and it has performed quite well.

D4 is full frame, D500 is 1.5 magnification. The D500 is the baby D5. Either would be a great choice but if it were me take the D500 and enjoy the game!

I would leave the big lens at home if you have teleconverters which are smaller and lighter.
For whale watching in Washington state I took my Nikon kit but used my Sony 24-600 bridge camera and was not disappointed! Enjoy your trip!

Either will be great. I started with the Sigma 150-600 but found it too heavy for me. Bought my brothers Nikon 200-500. Kept the Sigma 1.4 tele converter.
You will enjoy either lens and lice RMNP. Make sure to visit Sheep Meadow before sunset!

I believe phone cameras are for pictures and a DSLR or Mirrorless camera is for photographs. An iPhone 12 Pro Max with 512 MB costs around $1,400 from Apple. A Nikon D7500 with 20.1 Mp capture goes for around $1,000 new. A decent lens like a Nikon
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR can be had for about $400.00. It comes down to preference and what images you want to capture. For ease of use I choose my iPhone 12. But for trips to important places and events I will choose my Nikon D500 or Nikon Z7. I have Z lenses from 14mm to 200mm, all at F/2.8 and an F lens at 200-500mm. We live in amazing times with so many choices. So choose wisely and enjoy the ride!

Hi Hogs,
I’m going to be traveling to France with my French school and am on the fence as to which of my cameras I should take.

Choices are: Z7 with 24-70 2.8 S OR Olympus M1 Mkiii with 12-40 2.8 pro. I don’t want to bog down with multiple lenses and some of the people on the trip may want their pics taken. I won’t have lighting but will have a peak design travel tripod and my Kase filter set.

I’m curious to see what you have to say. This is my first time going overseas, so I thought traveling on the Club Med tour to Vittel le Parc would be a good trip to get my feet wet.

I’m primarily a landscape photographer and want to do my best to photo document the trip.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Hogs, br I’m going to be traveling to France wi... (show quote)

Dear Hogger
We went Paris and Rome in 2019 pre-COVID. Had similar conundrum- take the Z7 and some lenses or… so I bought a LUMIX 24-320(?) and shot RAW and jpeg. It has a 20+MP capture so could crop as needed. The small camera provided opportunities to capture street scenes, inside cathedrals and then landscapes/cityscapes. I would go small for first visit. Then can decide what to take on your second visit. First, always just enjoy and don’t worry about the camera. Bon voyage!

Is Roberts Camera a reputable company to sell used camera equipment. Has anyone used them? Did they pretty much give you the amount they quoted? Or reduce it ? Or??
Who is better? B&H, MPB, KEH or who?
Thanks for the help

I live near Indy and Roberts has 2 stores - downtown Indy and Carmel. I just traded in 7 lenses and got a fair price for the collection. I have established good relationships with the owner and many sales people at both stores. Roberts makes it very easy. You might get more money somewhere else but time is money. I would rather have the ease of transaction than seeking out the best price. I give Roberts top marks!

For the last three weeks I've tried something new for me. I took a subwoofer out of a speaker, covered it with a black latex balloon then put acrylic paint on the speaker (I mixed it with water). I cranked the sound up high to "Comin' Home Baby" by David Sanborn. I don't have a micro lens but I did my best with what I had. Here are my results
