I haven't watched either video but it seems to me that if compressed raw is a good idea, why aren't we all exporting as compressed tiff or DNG? I think I'll always want the best possible starting point and then decide if I want to throw away data for the sake of saving storage space.

Very strait forward and pragmatic. Prehaps youve confused UHH with some other forum ? Check the earl at the top of your screen !

I just bought a new D780. It's also on sale for $700 off of the usual retail price.

Yowza ! I went to B&H site for the details and noticed that this acoarst affected their used prices. They have three in the $1100 to 1250 range. Almost makes me consider going back to an SLR (but only almost).

My reality is still having my barely used D750 sitting idle if I did want to go back, but youve posted a good news heads up for SLR users considering their final opportunity to update.

Is it me you are accusing of creating click bait - is so, how so?

Nope. I was agreeing with *your* premise concerning much ado about nada.

That's why 99.9% of photos I shoot are of nature or inanimate objects; I have an incredible knack for snapping the shutter at absolutely the worst time when attempting to take any shot of a human

Dont be so hard on yourself. Show us a few but dont choose them yourself. Pleeeeeeaze let someone else choose them ! NOT joking.

Very interesting to me! And again, I admit that I don't fully understand this stuff. So I can't see how a 45MP sensor can produce a nearly 50MP file or a 71MB File! But that's OK, I'm just a picture taker!
But I do understand that more detail in a file will result in a bigger file, but maybe only when you are counting MBs rather than MPs.
Thanks for this!

File size changes due to several variables.
Pixel resolution is strictly user controlled.
Try running some tests.

Yeah, but I don't shoot RAW.

Doesnt matter in the least. MPs dont just wander off and disappear. Unless youve *intentionally* reduced the format or the resolution, you must ALWAYS get 45MP images. Really beats me why you havent tested it for yourself. OTOH, if your ideas come from testing, then theres really no rational hope of helping you.

The D500 and D850 can use all the same lenses. “Effectively” comes into play because many of those lenses are DX.

Ive found that if you really want to use every F-mount lens ever made, and use them most "effectively", you cannot do better than a late model Sony a7XXX.

Most everything that even approaches it are SLRs, so Sonys are secure as king of the hill.

I think the entire debate and the surrounding "concerns" are ridiculous. Back when film replaced glass plates, or more recently the dominance of digital imaging over film- did any of those changes kill photography? Much ado about nothing.

How doo yew spall "Clik Bate" ?

What are you talking about?

Pretty sure its spozed to relate to viewfinder blackout ... altho, as youve noted, it makes way less than zero sense no matter what it might be about. Just UHH background noise.

Really, because shutter speeds like 2000/second is an issue. If so, switch to Live Mode.

Not all cameras provide that info.
So those of us unfamiliar with the screen would probably guess, as I did.

Obviously, you need a better camera,
or possibly just more spare batteries.

Merci, Denis
Hello, I am a long time amateur, I understand your debates on the number of pixels...
Personally I wonder how to obtain this result that I like very much: a feeling of space, volume, an obvious layering of the various planes ... I see these images sometimes on a PC screen, on television, or on paper, It is not the pixels in the display or print that make the difference, so it is the shooting.
I have an idea, I wonder if a Fuji 100mpix with a wide-angle focal length would not be the answer?
What do you think?
Thank you, Denis

That could do it but the ability is NOT unique to such equipment. Its a combination of a suitable scene and a capable photograoher. Top level gear is not at all necessary.

A wide lens will work but likewise a normal lens. A long lens is rather less suitable, less likely to enable you getting what you want.

You are mistaken once again. A 45MP camera rarely actually produces a 45MP file! It depends on the detail in the image.
And, NO. Using a teleconverter wouldn't help me with anything, because I never use one.
Funny, I would have thought a twelve year head start would have given you an advantage...I wonder what happened??
And too...The bird is a great shot, sharp and beautiful! Double download proves it! Go ahead, give it a try!

Uh oh .... somebody pooping in the sandbox.
