Being a Colorado resident for 63 years. There is a monsoon season: Predictable afternoon showers. We are just entering this season. However, as previously stated, there has already been 1 mudslide on I-70 recently. This has been a continuous problem on that stretch of road since it was built. It has gotten worse since the latest fires. Travel in Colorado has always been dangerous at times, and will continue to be so. That's how we native Coloradoans like it. Try Red Mountain Pass during a snow storm/white out sometime. Quite exciting! So check your road conditions and adjust your travel plans/route accordingly.

Living here, I would say the advise to have two bases is good. I like the idea of Stowe, which is central but moderately north and then Woodstock in the south. In a week, will be hard to see, and photograph, it all, but you can get a nice range of scenery between the two. Shelburne Farm and the ferries would be a nice day trip. Stay off the interstates as much as you can unless you are trying for a “quick hop”. Rt 2, 100, and 7 will move you around the State through lots of nice small towns.

You can never predict “peak color” to the week, but by planning a trip both North and South you will have a good shot. Elevation changes can really bring you to different color zones, so give yourself some alternatives to be higher up in the green mountains (runs down the center of the State) and valleys.

Lots of options, none of which will be “bad” regardless of what you choose.

Love them as usual. Your shots always remind me that not all the action and emotion is during the plays, but also on the sidelines and before/after. To easy to miss these great “human” moments

Know you are waiting for the season to beginning to start again. Keep posting from your archives. Great for us to keep learning from you.

software companies are in the business to sell good products that people want, just like any other. If you go to a autodealership, you don’t expect to find a 3 year old new model. Same is true everywhere. People expect latest and greatest at constantly lowering price.

At this point, not many of us are running Windows 7, nor does Microsoft support it. It is not reasonable for a company to support an old product forever. That said, 3 years is a bit short for support (2022-2025). I think 5 years would be reasonable.

To those on Windows 10, you can upgrade until 2025. Your software will not implode on that date. Will you get further updates from MS - no. But if all of your software is up to date at that point, it should continue to work fine for as long as you want. Just be sure you have good back-ups.

OK, now the hard part: will be returning the M3 via FedEx today. So, what camera to choose as its replacement: a later version of he RX100 or something entirely different (pocket/P&S)????????

I have the M7, which I bought Refurb, and love it once I learned that there is a customizable menu tab were I could put my most common items rather than scrolling through the zillion tabs to find the one I wanted. Mostly settled on the RX100 due to the pop up viewfinder with diopter adjustment, something that virtually no other camera of this size have. Almost all are LCD, which did not work for me as a quick pop and shoot having to pull out reading glasses every time

You like the picture quality of the M3, and it only gets better with more features with newer versions. That of course comes with a price tag. I would google a comparison of features of the RX100, and compare with average prices found. You may want just a “cleaner” version of the M3, or gain some features with a newer model. Only you can decide the value trade off equation

Happy hunting

Great shots. Really appreciate both the shooting details, as well as your thoughts on why you liked the shot. Helps me understand your “eye”, which is wonderful.

Hi

If “new” means “new to him”, then you can stretch your budget quite far with used or refurb equipment. I like CHG_CANON’s suggestion of D7500, D500, or D7200. The first two are in production, and you should be able to find lightly used or Refurb units available. The D500 would be a major step up, and one he will not outgrow for a while (or ever) within the Nikon DX DSLR series. The D7200 is no longer in production, but a great camera. There was a recent thread of one for sale on UHH about 2 weeks ago. It may still be available. I mention this as the D7200 would leave enough budget for a new lens to go with it.

Have you seen gas prices lately?

The only full tank of gas that $40 will get you is with an all electric car, and you could then afford a medium coffee at Starbucks!

This camera is a great camera at a fair price. You will be hard pressed to find another with this low a shutter count. They are getting harder and harder to find. I can’t spend your money, but if your current lenses are compatible as an entry point, and based on your previous comments, it would overcome some of the limitations you have noted

Nikon is not going to kill the DX format for some time, especially with the D500 going strong (but at a much much higher price point). The great thing about this body is have a choice of DX lenses (lower cost and lighter weight) or pick up selectively the prosumer FX lenses. 3 of 4 lenses I use I picked up here on UHH for a great price

Good luck. If i did not already have one, i would be stealing out from under you
