I think if you change the exposure by aperture or shutter speed . . . It would cause the ISO to change because it's in "auto" so I think the answer to your question is "no" . . . Try it and see what happens . . .

The best upgrade I've made was going to the D500 . . . It is just an outstanding camera and all your lenses will work just fine with it.

Yes, it's new . . . Yes I like it as much as my 18-270. The extra range is nice. A great walk around lens . . .

I have the Tamron 18-270 and the Tamron 18-400 . . . To my thinking and experience with them . . . They are both excellent lenses . . .

2 lb camera 1.5 lb lens. 3.5 lbs. I think I would hand hold and use a fast SS.

I am 63 and hand hold my 80D with a 150-600. Total weight is near 6 lbs. 3.5 is quite doable.

Well, in my experience, handholding that 150-600 gets old real quick . . . I use my monopod with tilt head, and find it much easier. It's not very well suited for BIF, so in that case, I just pick up the whole works up for tracking the flight. For everything except BIF, I find the monopod very usefull

I've had the Tamron 18-270 for a couple of years now and have been quite impressed with it . . . So last month I got the Tamron 18-400 . . . So far I'm very pleased with it. Camera is D500 . . .

In the final analysis, unless one is taking photos for the purposes of selling them or entering them into photo contests for recognition, the only one the photographer needs to please is himself or his/her family. So "acceptable" is a rather relative term.

Because of all the critics and pixel peepers on here, I chose the word "acceptable" . . . I should have said "excellent" and then let them criticize me for saying that . . . I've taken many excellent photos with my Tamron 18-270 and expect the same quality with the 18-400, which I haven't had the chance to use much yet.

If most of your camera movement is going to be from side to side, you don't really need a head . . . But . . . If you plan on much up and down tilting, then a tilt head or ball head will work better . . . From my experience . . .

A lot of folks will tell you to get a 150-600 or a 200-500 or a long prime in 400 or 500 . . . But, I have a 150-600 and it's just heavy and too big to deal with while traveling. . . . I like my 18-400 or 16-300 Tamron. They are a lot easier to deal with when traveling, and in my opinion . . . Give acceptable results . . .

I never let the computer do automatic file transfers . . . I always open the folder on the card then drag them to where I want them on the computer . . . Once I'm sure I have them on the computer, I reformat the card in the camera . . .

The best bet for birding would be to get a DSLR, then you can change lenses later when you can afford a better/longer telephoto. Your initial investment will not be the end . . . you will be happy with the kit lenses initially, but then will want to move on to longer and more capable lenses . . .

I have the Tamron 18-270 on my D5500 and the Tamron 18-400 on my D500. I think these are both excellent lenses and they stay on my cameras 95% of the time. I also have a Tokina 11-16 and a Tamron 150-600 . . . But both of these are more speciality lenses and only used when I need super wide or super telephoto. The 18-270 and 18-400 cover all my needs from moderate wide to moderate telephoto. . . And are great all around lenses . . .

I'm a Nikon guy . . . BUT . . . If I already had lenses and accessories for my Canon T3i . . . I'd probably go with the T7i since it should be able to use the same lenses and accessories . . .
