Visited a local camera store today; went to check out a mirrorless system. They had a pre owned Nikon D850 for sale; asking price was $2200; shutter count was over 100K. They offered me $1200 for my D850 that has just over 10K shutter actuations.

So, they had a D850 that had a ten times the shutter clicks your D850 had for $2200. And your D850 offer was $1000 less than that. I do realize that trade in's of your cameras don't always get the best of money. You, could make more than $1200 by selling it on this forum, with only 10,000 shutter clicks. And then go buy your new anticipated mirrorless camera. Whatever Brand it may be. Yes, I know photographers will say you should support your local camera shop. But? Going full frame mirrorless, means that whatever FX lenses you have, would have to be sold too.

The D5 and D6 are geared for fast action sports. The D5 had a release date cost, in 2016 of $6500. The same for the new D6. Both have sensors in the 21 megapixels range. Making them both a speed and low light capability DSLR. The D5 has an expandable ISO of 3280000, which I suspect would never be used? The D850 has a 45.7 megapixels sensor, and has 7 fps without a battery grip, and 9 fps with the expensive battery grip. Which would qualify it, for a professional action DSLR sports camera. Minimally.

It should be probably be cancelled or delayed. The virus is so far, very contagious, typical antivirals don't work, and the governments worldwide are generally unprepared for it. So far the things that are working are AIDs and Ebola drugs which even in developed nations are not in any great supply. I've read a couple of books on the Spanish Flu of 1918 (which actually came out of the US)
was the first modern pandemic and killed millions; worldwide transmission by air makes the spread considerably easier today. Generally vaccines are the best way of stopping a virus, but that takes time to develop and longer to put into production. The best solution short term is to isolate it, but it appears that the virus is now on every continent except Antarctica. Pretty scary.

Japan just closed all of their schools until April 2020. Because of the virus outbreak.

XQD cards are used in pro level cameras. Sony is the creator of the XQD cards. Lexar was another Brand. Nikon is soon to release one. Most likely manufactured by another company, but bears the Nikon name. Although, I purchase from eBay occasionally, memory cards are something I would not purchase from eBay. I know of two incidents, where eBay sold counterfeit SD cards. I use only SanDisk and Lexar SD cards, upwards to 64gb. Class 10 types. Get your XQD cards from a reputable camera shop. And pay the regular price for it. You won't be sorry.

Seems like a no-brainer to cancel the games. What an ideal venue to spread the virus...... thousands of people from all over the world.

I read that the government of Japan does not want to cancel, or postpone the Olympics. The three month observation period will end by the end of May 2020. If the virus has been contained by then, the Olympics will most likely begin as scheduled. The attendees of the Olympics are worldwide. And tickets are sold to see the events. The most exciting events are the most expensive to purchase.

The D500 has a shutter lifespan upwards to 200,000+ shutter clicks. Other Nikon DX consumer cameras have 100,000+ shutter clicks. As, someone mentioned in an earlier thread, you wouldn't know the shutter count, until you purchased the camera. If the camera was bought used, from an individual seller, you could get a shutter count on it. Also, if you purchase a Nikon DSLR, that has had a new shutter replacement, the previous shutter count is not rolled back. One photographer, I met a few years ago, had a recalled D750 by Nikon USA, for a shutter issue. The shutter was replaced for free. The shutter count was not rolled back. However, the camera had a new shutter. Purchasing a Nikon USA D500 should be OK. The refurbished Nikon cameras come with a 90 day warranty. Instead of a one year warranty on a new camera.

The Associated Press (AP) had an article yesterday, that the International Olympics Committee (IOC) is debating whether or not to cancel the 2020 Olympics in Japan. Because of the Corona Virus. The only time I know of an Olympics cancellation, was during WW2. The IOC says that the next three months, will be critical in making the decision. Three new full frame cameras have been mentioned, that were to be highlighted there, on this forum. Canon 1DX Mark 3, Sony a9ii, and the Nikon D6. They may not be used. At all.

Just wondering what would be the high and low prices for a Nikon Nikkor 50.mm 1.8 with the auto and manuel settings? Will I'll have any problems using it on a D5600?

I own the Nikon 50mm f1.8G lens. I bought it Brand New in the box, for about $246. There was a reduction in price during the Xmas holiday last year. $216. I bought it for portraits and for shooting photos of kids outdoor soccer games from the sidelines, during the summertime. I own a Nikon DX DSLR. I get a FOV of 75mm. The 50mm f1.8G, is also a popular prime lens, for owners of the D500. Also, the Nikon 50mm f1.8G is a FX lens.

I took a long time for Nikon to come up with a successor to the D300/D300s. And the very first DX camera to have a XQD memory card. I always thought it would be the D400, Nikon skipped that number. It will be a crop sensor DSLR, that will become legendary among Nikon DX cameras. The D7200 was discontinued after 4 years. But, still very popular today.

Vello Brand is another third party grip, that you can buy from B&H. I personally don't need a battery grip. One battery in the camera is sufficient for me. I do carry an extra charged battery when I travel though. There are some Nikon DSLRs, that Nikon does not make a battery grip for. Therefore, if you want a battery grip, you have no choice, but to buy a third party manufacturer. As, to which aftermarket battery grip is better between Neewer and Vello Brand names. I don't know? I don't need any of the two.

Nikon 105mm micro (macro), Tokina 100mm, or Tamron 90mm. Nikon also has a 60mm micro (macro), if you want a shorter version lens. All have a 1:1 magnification. Which is the one you should want to have. The 100mm Tokina, is your best option, in regards to price and quality. Next to the Nikon 105mm. If, you will consider a used lens. Check out KEH or eBay.

I need to improve the ability to shoot in low light situations. (Primarily horse shows under the lights and early morning/evening wildlife shots)
I currently have a Canon 80D and a Canon 70-200 f4 Is ii lens. A Canon 100-400 lens and a Tamron 150-600 lens. I also have the Canon 1.4 and 2.0 extenders.
Looking at acquiring a used Canon 5D Mark iii or a Canon 70-200 f2.8.
Will be “trading” a Canon 70D and the f4 lens and possibly the Tamron.
If you could only do one, which would you upgrade? Camera or lens?

The Canon 80D is a very good crop sensor camera. The 70-200mm is perhaps one of the most versatile lenses you can own. Whether, it be f2.8 or f4. Even the aftermarket brands are very good. One being the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 G2. I met a pro wedding photographer a few years ago. He owned two bodies of the Canon 5D Mark 3. And, one of his lenses was the Canon 70-200mm. I don't know if it was f2.8 or f4. Regardless, it got the job done for him.

Nikon no longer does a service repair on the D200. The D300 and D300s are gradually creeping up on that "no repair list."

I think you have "discovered" something that has been extensively commented on since the D500 has been released. First, I have en-el15 batteries that are 4 years old and they still show "new". And if I test how long they can power live view for, it is exactly the same as a brand new EN-EL15b. So one can argue that they function like "new" even though they are 4 years old and have been used and recharged many times.
Second, some people (like myself) have found that the D500 uses batteries much more than my older cameras (including the D7200). This is true of two different D500s I own. It is hard to compare between what number of photos I can get compared to others since it depends on how one uses a camera, but clearly I get fewer photos on both of my D500s than my D7200 and the battery level does go down much faster (and as you found, show less left in the D500 than in a D7200). In fact, when I got my first D500, I had a couple occasions when I was quite shocked to find the camera had shut off since the battery had "run" down to zero. Clearly it uses more power and shuts off quicker in my hands than my D7200.
Whether this is a "flaw" in the D500 or because it really needs the additional power has been argued. I have learned to compensate for this by always carrying extra fully charged batteries in my pockets. So in my opinion the benefits of the D500 do outweigh this need for additional battery power.
I think you have "discovered" something ... (show quote)

Nikon has discontinued the EN EL 15 and 15a. Their newest version is the EN EL 15b, which is supposedly better and longer lasting than its predecessors. It was developed to be used in both mirrorless and DSLRs. That battery can be charged inside the camera, with a USB cable. As well as outside the camera with a plug in electrical charger. I have been told, that the Nikon D780 is capable of in camera charging, with an USB cable?
