And you would be wrong. Treason is defined in our constitution, and it says, “Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” In other words, exactly what the southern states and those who fought for them did. And if you define russia as our enemy, which I do, then by definition, donald rump is guilty of it too.

After thinking about your explanation of the logic/motives behind removing statues and renaming things, do you have any concerns about what happened to Native Americans? In the spirit of being consistent with actions against Confederate history, why not remove everything related to the US politicians and military personnel who led and/or participated in the genocide of the indigenous people of this continent? And what about the Buffalo Soldiers who were among the most efficient in prosecuting that genocide, should there be statues and memorials honoring them?

Is treason worse than genocide?
After thinking about your explanation of the logic... (show quote)

Both are abhorrent, and yes, I am concerned about what happened and what continues to happen to Native Americans. I don't advocate actions against history, just an end to the glorification of enemies of the US. Were there a statue of John Chivington, who was responsible for the Sand Creek Massacre, I would be in favor of having that removed too.

Thank you Mike; fond memories of Pacifica, a place called Moonraker's, a girl from San Bruno. . .

I abhor the thought of s***ery and for those who fought for the Confederacy for the sole purpose of continuing the practice of s***ery I would count as war criminals. But s***ery was not the only issue. There was also the issue of states rights and how the industrial North was not in step with the agrarian South. Anyone who thinks the South was 100% wrong needs to read the articles of confederation. There are some excellent points made in the document which would improve relations between the government in Washington and the states. The Federal Government has over the last 100 years taken more and more power from the states and will at times put them in a choke hold when a state takes an opposing stand on an issue. It will withhold funding for projects just to get its way. Wasn't it Jefferson that endorsed armed resistance when the government becomes so powerful it infringes on individual freedoms? Today there are no leaders that could be considered lions. We as a nation have become sheep and our personal freedoms are slowly being eroded. While I don't endorse armed resistance, I think we could make changes by looking more closely at who we are electing. My biggest complaint is professional politicians. This country was not set up to create a business of permanent jobs in government. If we want real change in this country we first need to implement term limits. When politicians are more interested in the survival of their careers than doing the right thing for their constituents, then they are as much t*****rs as the Confederate Leaders were.

I think a more realistic picture is shown in the letters of cessation of several states. Many make clear that the only state right they were concerned with was s***ery, the main issue of the war. I also think we already have term limits in place, our e******ns. According to the Census Bureau, 55% of women and only 52% of men v**ed in 2018. If almost half of us can’t be bothered, or don’t care enough to v**e, and the rest if us keep electing the same people at all levels of government who don’t care about us or our country, we’ve no one to blame but ourselves for the government we end up with.

The heroes of the War of Northern Aggression are honored in their native states and are valid figures in a history that should be remembered if for no other reason than accuracy. Lincoln pardoned them all and many had distinguished leadership roles after the war.

The “heroes” of the War of southern TREASON were just that, t*****rs as defined by our constitution. No matter what they did prior to or after their treason, they were enemies of the United States. They should be remembered as figures from history, but not glorified for their treasonous attempt to destroy the United States. Have you seen any statues of Benedict Arnold?

You got it. History is history--don’t deny it.

Removing statues of enemies of the United States, from places of honor is not erasing history. We have no statues of Cornwallis or George III, none of Kaiser Wilhelm, Tojo or Stalin. Davis, Lee, Jackson, Stewart and Longstreet were no less our enemies. How about we erect a statue of bin Laden, he was part of our history? Teach the history, take down the statues and erase Stone Mountain.

You seem to be unable to conceive that our own mass shootings are considered "domestic terrorism". Like I said your statement covered any other country on the planet. A mass shooting is a mass shooting. I know I didn't miss the part where you differentiated between "mass shootings". That was your statement not mine. If you wanted to not include all mass shootings you should have stated exactly what you were talking about. Your statement as stated by you was not factually correct. Don't really see how I can make that much simpler.

It has been my experience that more often than not and starting with the nra, people in favor of unrestricted gun sales and ownership usually talk about mass shootings as the act of a lone shooter, who probably has a mental health issue. They’re referred to as “domestic terrorism” when it fits the agenda, as is the case I suspect here. Call it what you will however, but I think you knew what I meant when I said terrorism; things like the taliban, al qaeda, and hezbollah.

Frank you never cease to be amusing. Here you are telling us you don't insult except for when you do and then end by calling me a jerk. It probably fits though because of the way I or any other conservative can jerk your chain causing you to post absolutely insane i***tic comments.

Thank you francine for being just who you are, a sissified Liberal who just admitted you cannot stand the heat of The Attic. So you resort to being a 6th grader issuing 6th grade insults. Nice.

Dennis

I said I don’t start it and I called you a jerk because you are. Ask your wife and daughter if I’m a francine.

No I do not. I don’t believe I’ve ever started throwing insults around in a conversation. When I do, it’s in response to something that’s already been said. And even then, I don’t do it with all comments, all the people whose politics differ from mine. Just the loudmouthed jerks like you.

It was a funny story, meant to entertain, to make use smile, why do you have to turn it political? I actually know the answer to that. Because the world is full of holes: Sink holes, potholes, and aholes like you.

Which country has more mass shootings than the US? And please, don’t list countries in the midst of an armed i**********n, revolution, or terrorism.
