Great shots, Fullframe! I love the last one; it looks like he's saying, "Okay, I got it down! Now what do you want me to do?".

Thanks mom, he was certainly glad that was over

At least I think it's a wood duck. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Using Canon 5DM4/EF 100-400mm L II + 1.4xTC Handheld at 560mm. 1/2500 sec, f8, ISO 500.

This is an extreme crop of a 30mp original cropped down to less than 3mp. Subject was pretty far away, but this frame seemed to be semi-sharp.

Great shots. I wonder if something was stuck in the gullet and it was trying to force it down. Either way, tremendous shots. Gary

I don't know, that could be. I followed him around for about an hour and he did that out of the blue midway through the shoot

I'm inclined to go with the #3. It appears to be the sharpest.

I'm always favoring the sharpest too. I like the bug on his head in #3

Wonderful! As a physician I appreciate this unique view of the bird's pharynx! The Canon 100-?400 II (I presume 100-100 typo!) is a wonderful lens. A couple of questions:
1. Do you shoot manual or auto focus?
2. Single shot or multiple frames?
3. Hand held or supported?

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you tinplater

Yes it was a typo. 100-400 II.

1. I mainly shoot sports action wildlife so i never manual focus. I always autofocus or I'd miss the shot.
2. High speed continuous shooting.
3. Handheld, except when I'm shooting at 1200mm with the 600 prime with 2x tele converter. Only then do i use a tripod or monopod.

#1 is the most natural and also is more pleasing to the eye.

Thanks, sometimes the most extreme is not the best.

The first one has more natural looking color on the feathers. The best by far.

Thanks! I liked the bug on his head in the third one, but toy might be right.

Good grief! I've never seen anything like this before, and hope to never see it again. These shotsare absolutely amazing. How did you manage to get them?

I got them by taking at least 1800 shots in a three hour period. I followed this particular heron for a good hour or so. Just keep shooting, you never know what you're going to get!

Thanks for the comments Mike, glad you liked them.

Very nice work Fullframe ! ........with crops like these, who needs a TC ??

I was trying to get the whole bird, which is why I was not fully zoomed in at 560mm, but when I saw the mouth, I cropped away!

Thanks meister

Talk about a study in anatomy!

5D Mark IV with EF 100-100 L II + 1.4x TC at 504mm, but extreme crops from 30mp down to 1mp!

Check out the nictitating membrane over the eyes in a few of the shots.

Let me know which is your favorite and why. All three are of the same bird, same pose and angle, but different settings and lighting conditions.

No cropping. I kept at original 20 mp size.
