The delphiniums in my yard have a beautiful blue-to-purple color gradient that I thought would be fun to explore with changing white balance. The first photo is a JPEG straight out of the camera with the shade WB setting. The second photo was shot raw and adjusted on my desktop using a white balance card as a reference..

Regardless of “correct” WB, I like the color of the first picture.

Bought a pre-owned Sony RX100 M3 from MPB which arrived last Saturday. It was rated “Good” but frankly looks like new. I have popped exactly 106 shots since its arrival and I an blown away with the picture quality and I love it.

However, about 10 times when turning on, the lens cover butterfly gets stuck partially open. I can easily open it with my finger, but still a pain.

It appears that this is a pretty common problem with this model and that there is no repair evidentially.

MPB has given me the option of returning the unit for “repair, exchange or refund.”

So, would you:

A) return and take a chance on what I might receive in exchange?
B) keep it and deal with it?
C) take the refund and move on to a different compact camera option?

And, do the newer models have the same issue?

When I bought that camera, I was advised to buy a clear cover for the lens. Consequently, I’ve never had that issue. If I were you, I would return the camera and get a newer version. Then invest in the clear lens cover to keep dust out.

In addition: I’ve always kept this camera in a sturdy little case.

This is more or less in reply to a thread started recently by jerryc41 posted here to avoid interfering with his chain.

Previously as PS and LR were updated every year or so books were published to help us learn. No with the subscription versions are updated frequently and as far as I can tell no hard copy is being produced. I have tried a few YouTube videos, but found them lacking, thus the title.

Thanks for your input.

Bill

Try Anthony Morganti (IAmMrPhotographer.com). He has a newsletter with short videos showing new (and old) stuff for several editing programs including PS and LR

Don't bother calling Security, I will show myself out.

OK, more seriously, if I can't figure something out I search Adobe's Help and Support on line. And there are some who keep up with the new features like the "Lightroom Queen".

Yes! You beat me to it. I have her book, “FAQ” and the digital version gets updated continuously. For Lightroom

When I installed Microsoft Office, it also installed OneDrive. Part of OneDrive is a folder on your computer that is also called OneDrive. They are linked to each other so that what you save, rename or delete on one also happens on the other. Since the photos you lost were in the My Pictures folder, I can only think that you must have moved the OneDrive folder into My Pictures, or directed the installer to put it there and then renamed the folder to something else. Later on you forgot that you had done that, but the software still keeps them linked regardless of what you name the folder on your local hard drive.

This is confusing. You are saying that OneDrive is part of Office and inside is a folder ALSO named OneDrive? I have Microsoft Office, but I do not have OneDrive. Perhaps I disabled it? I don't use the Windows OS but instead I have MACOS. Apple has iCloud, which I rarely use. I'd rather have total control of where my documents and photos reside...in multiple locations, of course. I certainly don't want what happened to Linda to happen to me.

Will the Adobe DNG convertor help?

Well, I imported them into LR as DNGs and I still couldn’t view them in Finder.

Before anyone asks, I’m using the latest MACOS

Are these compressed or uncompressed? The MACOS Finder will NOT open raw compressed Fuji files. If you aren’t sure, go into your camera menu and check. I you change to uncompressed, I think they should display. I KNOW that is the case with Fuji X100F and XT-2. I don’t have an XT-4 to check.

Apparently the X T-4 that I have is not yet compatible with the MACOS.

I see that this wasn’t answered effectively. MACOS and IOS (Apple) DOES read the UNCOMPRESSED raw files, but not compressed files. The uncompressed take up much more space so it makes sense to capture the compressed files (camera setting).

Raw Power (www.gentlemenencoders.com) had added compressed file support and is tightly integrated with Apple Photos. It reads files (and flags) from either the Finder or Photos.

I had my camera set to lossless compressed. So, I changed it to uncompressed and took a picture and I still can't view it in Finder. Darn...I thought you had the answer. Safari can't find the server for the link you provided.

To clarify, when I open Finder, I get a thumbnail that cannot be viewed. However, If I open it in Preview, the file is visible. I thought that I should be able to view my pictures in Finder; but any with the raf extension are not viewable. It is not very convenient to open one file at a time to view in "Preview".

Another find, from a dpreview thread: FastRawViewer will be able to let you see those images, as would C1, any of the Adobe Apps, and most other editors

.

Thank you for these links. I’ll try them tomorrow. It’s been a really rough day today….

I’ve searched the internet and can only surmise that Apple hasn’t upgraded the OS to support Fuji’s newer cameras in order to view their raw files. Does anyone know a workaround? Luckily, I use LR to edit them and Adobe DOES support my new camera (X-T4). I know I could export JPEGs. I even tried importing them as DNGs, but these still can not be viewed in the Finder. Thank you in advance!

How can you say you get free upgrades when you pay an annual fee??

What I mean is that I don’t pay for each upgrade; but you are right. It’s part of the cost of a subscription.

I have the rule of thirds grid lines showing in my viewfinder just as a reminder. I also like leading lines. I think about composition all the time while out with the camera, but first and foremost is how my scene is lite. What is the direction of light and how will it effect my images.
I do not dwell on these things but I am aware of them while I am shooting.

Excellent answer and a beautiful picture!

Okay, okay, I get it. Using caps is considered yelling online. This is something I didn't know. My apologizes to all who were offended. I'm surprised at how offensive caps might be. I appreciate the comments regarding the substance of my question but I'm not asking for a new program or a new computer or a new car for free, I'm just wondering how many of us purchase a program and then two weeks later find out that there are new improvements that will make it significantly better. These brand new improvements will speed up, make more accurate, add beauty and correct the bugs that came with the original purchase of the program. I bought these bugs, you charged me for them. Why do I have to pay to fix your mistakes and/or oversights? If it were a car I'd call it a lemon. The new improved steering wheel will keep it on the road, the improved brakes will stop it sooner, the air conditioning will really cool things off with the new super refrigeration additive. None of this is covered by your warranty by the way. How about a software warranty? It's a crazy idea, but a real sales pitch I might fall for.
With a little research I've found that most of the new aesthetic "improvements" being offered by these companies are available online for free.
Okay, okay, I get it. Using caps is considered yel... (show quote)

I get where you are coming from. As a manager of a hospital lab, I was on a team that was responsible for implementing a new software program. We had to write all the dictionaries (this is the window that pops up and you can chose something from the list) and test how it worked. It is impossible to imagine all the ways an individual can mess up the intent of the program. We did not write the software itself; but had to “customize” it for our own needs. Upper management kept pushing us to “go live”; but I delayed it as long as possible to work out the bugs. We had to write our own training manual and train the entire staff and the doctors were the worst students. Once live, the company worked with us to work out the kinks FOR A LIMITED TIME.

So, based on that experience, I think software companies should offer free upgrades to fix bugs that weren’t anticipated during the testing phase. That is how some of the programs I own currently operate. Quicken comes to mind. I pay an annual fee and get free upgrades all year. Sometimes a company changes the software and makes it WORSE. That happened with Lightroom a few years back when they tried to make it simpler (they thought) and all of us “seasoned” users complained LOUDLY and they changed it back.

Anyway, it is aggravating to buy a program only to be asked to pay for “bug fixes” shortly afterwards. It’s ongoing and I, for one, am trying to eliminate as many of these programs as possible. I WISH I still had desktop versions of QUICKEN, WORD and EXCEL I don’t need or use their “improvements” but now I’m stuck in their subscription plans. I’ll keep Adobe, though

I have the III and it has the same lens as the IV. I see no reason to upgrade. The OP should be very happy with version III.
