Our sliding closet doors have small round rubber adhesive bumpers to prevent noise and marks. It might be possible to drill out the center and attach them on the camera around the button to prevent accidental pressing the button.
I bought both styles that Optec makes. I prefer the one without the chest strap. I am thinking of putting the snaps on a small camera bag for it to hang from the second strap when I am carrying only one camera. The double strap/harness is very comfortable to use. They have a great product.

As far as photo ethics I read in a book on wildlife photography (I believe it was by Lenard Rue III) that he had never seen a photo of a mountain Lion that wasn't a captive/tame animal in a staged situation.
