They do not have the style of the 50's or 60's do they?
If I had to choose, I would take the thunderbird any day!

I'm going on a sightseeing trip to India in March and want to take a compact camera rather than my bulky D-SLR. I'm considering a Nikon s9500 as it has a good zoom and will upload to the cloud without a computer. Any opinions or recommendations please?

Check out Ricoh GR....16mp.....APS Sensor!

People who have been saying the DLSR industry is dying reminds me of people who have said Rock N Roll is dying. That's been dying for 40 years LOL

Could not agree more with that statement!....as I am a Rock & Roller myself. As far as technology changes go in cameras, I am self assured that what I have got at present will suffice my future needs. The way forward is no doubt mirrorless. However,I think I will be dead and buried when they invent a small 300mm f2.8 or 400mm 2.8.

Been doing photography since the 1980's, there is a tremendous difference in quality lenses. If there wasn't I wouldn't dish out the money for them.

Could not agree more, and to a large extent, it depends how lucky you are as to whether you get a good one or not . I am referring to Canon & Nikon here, and to a lesser extent, upper priced lenses. Reason being,as you may well be aware, these lenses are built to fall within certain tolerances, as with the camera bodies!
If you are unlucky to have a body (and) lens combination that are just on or just outside these limits, the resulting image quality would be disappointing to sat the least,

Find me neither surprised nor disappointed. You obviously have an impessive breadth and depth of knowledge as well as some experience within the groves of academe, many of the potential better effects of which seem not to have rubbed off on you. The unfortunate inescapable fact is that you somehow have reached the conclusion that it be more fun to boastfully put down and bully those you clearly consider your " lessers" than to take the time to discover their actual points of confusion as well as the level at which you could best approach them to elevate their comprehension and understanding. Above all I was aghast at your boastful statement listing the expensive cameras and lenses you own as evidnce of anything other than that you were sufficiently financially flush to be able to own them. With your supposed academic background it should be obvious that that egregious boast provides absolutely no bearing on one's ability to judge either your intellect or knowledge. as Previously stated, it speaks volumes about both your value system and your self-image.
Before closing I'll take a moment to thank the senders of the many private messages of support and thanks from Hoggers who seem to have greater appreciation than you'd suspect of your level of knowledge but also frank mystification as to why your "bullying" -a word that has appeared several times - continues to be your favored route to self-aggrandizement.

I am glad that you viewed my website. Would that I and other Hoggers could have the chance to view yours...if it exists.

with appropriate regards,

Dave
