I went fishing at Irvine Lake in Calif. and came upon a large group of Vultures hanging out near a trash can.

this one single one must have closed his eyelid when I snapped the picture.. unless he got a problem with his eye.

Yes, I buy from them all the time. The service is great and most of the camera people that I have had dealings with seem to know their stuff... When they have their no sales tax sales, like right now, that is the time to buy the big ticket items.

They have an intensive web site at: samys.com

I buy from Samy's a lot, but the no sales tax , seems to be aimed at canon, never for Nikon, so that means that for camera's I will buy from NYC, so I don't pay tax, since I live in Los Angeles.

Because the lens is manual and works only with aperture priority you need to control your shutter speed by changing your ISO so it stays at about 1/300, even when on a tripod- if possible.

its the only Manual lens I own , so i need to remember that, thanks for the advice.

I came into possession of an old lens, Nikon f/4.5 Ai 300mm. This is the first shot that worked at all. The lens is manual focus only, so I turned everything to manual. That didn't work at all. This picture is in aperture priority. Does anyone have hints or tips on using this lens with this camera?

I have this same lens for my D7000, and I added it to my Non cpu list, and I set it on aperture and manual focus it. Works great. once i get it in focus, My eyesight is bad.

While at one of the theme parks in Orlando, Florida on a very warm day, this friendly brave fellow came right across the table in front of me and hopped onto the metal chair next to me. He laid as flat as he could on the metal chair to cool off his tummy. I raised my camera slowly and this is the shot. I smile at such animal antics.

That is too cool...

Memories of days gone by ..... near Old U.S. 66 in SW Missouri

That is truly a nice set. I will be going to Oklahoma in June, will be traveling on Route 66. But I will not be going far enough to get that. (sigh)

The last time I posted some photographic history I was disappointed, I posted pictures of the first patented handheld camera, a 1886 Schmidt detective camera which I owned, only a handful are in existence worldwide, wow, I got two comments. Let’s try something different, here are some historic images of Yosemite National Park that were taken long before the photographic legend of the park Ansell Adams was born. I acquired some 8x10 glass plate negatives at an estate sale about 30 years ago, I contact printed these and photographed the print, here are the results. At the time of my find of course there was no Google but a friend of mine, the son of Imogen Cunningham, I am sure very few know who she was, he came to the conclusion that by the 2 initials on the plates and the location of the estate that the images were made by a French artist and photographer around 1890. He apparently came here to paint Yosemite and he would use his photographs to create his paintings, he never returned to France. I no longer own the original as a collector gave me a price I couldn’t refuse.
If you look at these, perfect composition, whoever he was, he was a great photographer and that with the primitive equipment available 120 years ago.
PS. Nothing was changed in PS, these are straight contact prints.
The last time I posted some photographic history I... (show quote)

I saw the prints and and said to myself, I got a picture from that same perspective, only now there is a road that goes thru it. Taken in 2001, with a Casio Qv-2000ux , 2.1 megapixels. its enhanced with LR 5.2 Hope you didn't mind me posting this.

Either the man is very short or that dog belongs in the NBA! If that's what you see along Hwy 395, then you're a lucky person. Nice photos.

We spent 2 days at the Convict Lake Resort, which is 2 miles off of hwy 395. as we went to check in we saw a group of deer Maybe about 5 or 6 and they were standing there about 20 yards from us, and staring at this man and dog, like frozen. He seemed about my height give or take a inch and I am 5'9" and just as round. There was a lady with them and she said the dog weighs 180 lbs. longest legs I have ever seen on a dog.
