Your eyes are better than mine because I can't see any arcs in the sky no matter how much I enlarge the download. What I do see when looking at the top of the trees is over sharpening causing the dark shadows along the tree line. Not positive it is the sharpening but the photo looks to have had a bad day in the PP dept. When I look at the photo that's the 1st thing that jumps out at me not any arc's. There are those much more knowledgable that do see the arcs so I have to believe they're there although muchless evident than the bad PP work...........

The banding is definitely there, looking like wide saucer shapes, lower edge to the centre. The tops of the trees look like chromatic aberration to me, giving a turquoise edging to the tops of the branches

I like Picassa because of the ease of use. It may not be as comprehensive as some other programmes, but the simplicity makes it usable from the first time it is switched on. The organizer is very good, as good as PhotoplusX5 Organizer. The cons are that it does not have a layers or a curves arrangement, but almost everything else it has in a simplified version.
And it is free!

I also have a Fuji X10, it is a great camera that is very versatile and takes good photos, both in raw and JPG. The lens gives very sharp results even at fully open F2. The only slight problem is battery life, but it gives plenty of warning that the battery is getting low, and spares can be a very low price (about £5.00 GB£). Fully recommended.

Well described Coco, many beginners dont realise that a 4x6 photo is equivalent to an 8x12 except for the size, It took me ages to get it into my mind, so now I always use 'shrink to fit' just in case. Ive also found that Word is reluctant to print (text) in A5, easy in A4 and letter plus other sizes, but A5 isn't listed.

Thanks folks, yes she has beautiful eyes, she must get them from her great grandmother. With regards to the photo, I was very pleased, but I cropped it to a square one, and unfortunately sent the uncropped version.

This is my first attempt at enhancing a photo using Serif PhotoplusX5. It is my Great Granddaughter Jennifer.

Thanks again guys, I have just managed to convert a normal pic of my great granddaughter to a cropped feather edged oval on a white background using Serif and watching the photoshop elements tutorial on YouTube, so it seems that the two are fairly similar, just some of the names are different as is the layout. Oh well, we live and (hopefully) learn. As I cant post it on here I will send it to the Gallery for comment.

Nice pics from a good photographer with a VERY nice camera. I love my X10, it does nearly everything I want, is a neat compact size, has a great lens and a very good sensor. I also like the ability to use a cable release, not often found nowadays.

Thanks Jadeast and Shakey, I also found Serif Photoplus X5 quite confusing and complicated. The user manual and resource guide are not too much help, they tell me everything except what I want to find, and I have found that the tutorials on You Tube much better but rather limited.I am a member of our local camera Club where everyone uses either Elements10 or Photoshop CS5, and am wondering whether to go the Elements route or stick with Serif and hope for the best. For VERY basic editing I use Picassa, but miss not having a curves tool.

I have been struggling to get to grips with Serif X5 for several months, but was recently given some books describing using Elements 9 &10. Is there a lot of difference between them, and if so which is the better?

That is what the two small gunports at the side of the helmet are for. A broadside from the law will deter most villains.

Andrea, the cropping and toning down of the vignetting has made a nice photo into a great one, showing the joie de vivre of a little girl on a windy beach. It should look excellent framed and hanging on the wall.

Thank you, I will bear that in mind, I have been experimenting with curves recently but will stick to RGB in future

I agree with RMM, the policeman's helmet merges into dark background of the trees. It also shades his face, a fill in flash would help as well as moving to a spot with a lighter background.
Your mothers chin disappears into the background, and a plain background would improve it, as well as an increase in contrast.
