Welcome!

There are lots of us out here ... maybe we just aren't as vocal and "out there" as the Canon and Nikon crowds?

I have only owned Olympus cameras, going back to 1978 if I recall correctly. "Went digital" in 2007 with the e-520 and still use it occasionally. Have also added the E-P2, but never really "connected" with it. This summer I added the E-M5 and love it! Was going to sell off the E-P2 but my wife now seems interested in dabbling.

When was the last time somebody washed your windshield of checked the oil?

Still happens some places ... our "Co-op" gas bars in Calgary have both self serve and full serve pumps (at same price) and the full serve folks do wash windshields and check oil (oil is only if customer requests I believe).

Very nice shot ... did you walk up to the top, or ride the gondola?

Thanks for commenting, gleneric! It's in the 80's again here for the next four days. Definitely not looking forward to any snow flurries...until December maybe! ;-)

Yeah, we can get snow here pretty much any time of year, though it is rare in June, July and August (has happened though, in every month I am told!). Just booking an appointment to get my winter tires put on next week, just to be ready. Enjoy the weather you have there!

Looks serene/peaceful. Thanks for sharing ... we have "possible snow flurries" in the forecast for this evening, so some nice looking scenes like this are a welcome sight :)

Esther Thanks for the reply. REALLY--I was begining to think I was the olny OLY user out here.
The biggest problem I see with the new one is the sky hi price.

Another Olympus user here too ... bought my first Oly in 1978 and have never owned anything but. Recently bought the OM-D E-M5 and so far am loving it. Still use my old e-520 as a backup, and will likely sell my E-P2 now (never quite got the feel of it, and the focus was painfully slow at times).

Really looking forward to reviews on the new 12-40 "pro" m4/3 lens, and the longer zoom I hear is coming :)

Thanks for posting Bill ... a fascinating look back in time. As a traffic engineer, I look at things like this and wonder how there weren't collisions every 30 seconds. I guess it helps when everything is moving so slowly :)

Yup ... ranks right up there with "I didn't know it was loaded"

Even better ... stupid people filming (sorry "videotaping" ) themselves getting what they deserve:)

I filled up a week ago at around $1.12/litre if I recall correctly ... current price though is up around $1.24.

Ah yes, the age old issue: "how do I convince the wife that I really 'need' that new ... (fill in the blank)?"

I have employed various strategies over the past 28 years, some more successful than others. Not sure I should just give them away though ... perhaps I should write a book on the subject, make my fortune, and then go buy all of the new (fill in the blank) I want! :) My biggest regret is that I did not marry a lady with an equally expensive hobby as that would make it much easier to add to my photography gear.

Oh I guess I didn't catch that both pictures were taken on "P" and the camera was just turned. I saw the words "portrait" and "landscape" and thought they were taken in those modes which does change the colors. My guess then is it's taken the WB calculation from the white door in the first pic and on something else in the second pic which may be a different white hence the difference in colors of the pics.
Sorry for the confusion.

No need to apologize. My interpretation of what the OP meant could well be wrong. Either way, I was just curious about the various responses and interpretations posted ... all part of the learning process on my part :)

These two photos were taken within seconds apart. I believe...the camera was set for "p". One shot at landscape and one at portrait. Each are very similar in settings, f5.6 to f6, 1/125 for each, 30 to 40 mm distance, no flash, ISO-400 and the late afternoon sun was at my back. Why the color change in switching from landscape to portrait?
Thanks!

Did I miss something? When you said camera was set to "p" my immediate thought was that this would be "program" mode as that is what it is on my camera. You then took both photos in "p" mode, one with camera horizontal (or "landscape" orientation), and one with camera rotated 90 degrees to vertical (or "portrait" orientation). Is that correct?

A number of responses seem to suggest that taking a photo in "portrait" orientation changes things like how the camera renders skin tones ... hence my confusion. Simply rotating the camera by 90 degrees to "portrait" orientation is not changing modes, at least not on any of the limited number of cameras I have used. If, however, the "p" mode on your camera stands for portrait and not program, then I would remain confused, as you took both photos with camera set to "p" mode.

Good stuff ... I'll have to see if I can fit a small step ladder in my golf bag for moments like this.
