This was taken from the footbridge at the Chimneys Trail Head , Great Smoky Mountain National Park, in July 2016 before the Gatlinburg fires. The blooms are rhododendron.

A beautiful, well composed B&W. John, that is framing quality.

Mothers and grandmothers all over the world are teary-eyed. And these are technically good photos. But, as I have said in the past, very few portraits look good when the subjects are grinning. It makes them look stilted. "Cheese" is a dirty word as far as photography goes. And before you crawl all over me, take the same shots with their lips together. (The youngest in the first shot is OK as is.)

Those photos are fine just as they are. They are full of personality. The first shot is not just OK. It is a beautiful portrait of the children. FYI, there is nothing more precious than a child's innocent smile. Formal portraits should usually meet your specifications, but informal portraits serve to capture an event in time, and if it is a happy time the smiles are a reminder.

Great shot Jim.

But I’m puzzled, you were in that area and only took one photograph? The only viable explanation I can accept is you took many other photographs, but your saving the other photographs and will post them one at a time so we can fully appreciate the beauty of each one.

I have been there often, it’s known as the land of waterfalls for a reason!

Actually we were driving the Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee (MM 468.9) to my hometown of Buena Vista, VA (MM 45.7). We spent one night at the Mt. Pisgah Inn on the Parkway. I took a side trip down to the falls. I got several shots of the falls. This was my favorite.

Nice, Jim--the entire setting is eye-catching.

Thanks John. That was a challenging shot in that there were a lot of people there. I had to wait until I could get shot without anyone in it.
