I use Pixma by Canon. I've had excellent luck and results from the three that I've owned over the years.

Good luck

Yes, I have been looking at Pixma as well. I don't want too many bells and whistles on a printer, more things to go wrong. Thanks Jimmyya

I've had good luck with HP printers. Just mentioned this the other day, and my current printer started acting up. It is getting a little well used, though. DJT

Thanks for your input DJT. More food for thought.

Thanks Michael, Epson seem to be in the forefront of my thinking now.

Thanks Nikonshooter. I am about to look into the Epson printers that you have mentioned. I also now have started to use a Nikon camera - D7000 - and am enjoying learning so much.

Canon or Epson - limit your search to either.

We use Epson - a 3800, 3880, and 4900 - we use a local lab, Millers, WHCC, or Pictage for images and work that cannot be done with those printers (prints larger than 17 wide). They are limited to 17 inches wide - the 4900 has the most efficient use of ink and paper (uses roll as well as sheet) and cartridges are 200 ml in size. The 3800 and 3800 print all of the time and are work horses. Rarely do we have any issues (the biggest enemy to Epson printers is downtime)

Hi everyone, I have looked in the 'search' section and Amazon etc. but am blinded by the great array of printers. Can you advise please? I need an A4 printer mostly for photos in the price-range of around £150. It would be for light personal use only and available from England or Spain. Thank you.

The first one for me too. It is more complete and doesn't leave the viewer dangling.

A Bridge camera might fit the bill. Panasonic is a good make. They are light, easy to use, have good reach and many of the 'bells and whistles' of a DSLR without the cost. A good camera to learn on. However, the budget might have to stretch a little. Good luck.

Hi Trudy, thank you for looking. I don't think the 70~300 will take the TC 1.4. I don't use one and haven't tried. The lens permits great maneuverability, which is so important for butterflies and being an FX lens it gives a crop equivalent to a 450mm lens at full zoom, which is quite long enough for butterflies. It is also very sharp at f5.6 and that helps.

I used the new 80~400 G VRII fitted to a D7100 for these images.

Thanks Indrajeet for your prompt reply.

A particularly beautiful set Indrajeet. What a gorgeous butterfly. Were these with the Nikon 70-300mm as before - with a 1.4 tele-converter? I read on my lens info that one could not use any tele-converter on this lens but I believe people do. Are you able to clarify this for me please? Thanks.

Very interesting and informative posting. I look forward to more of the same but now it is down to the garden centre. Thank you.
