I'm new here and still trying to figure out how to make what I'm posting look like what's on my screen. Colors are looking different on hedgehog from how they look when I post on other sites, and I haven't figured out how to deal with it yet. So I reckon I'll keep posting and fiddling till I do.

I LOVE barns, one of my favorite subjects - new ones, old ones, pretty ones, ugly ones, old broken ones like this one which is on the west coast of Newfoundland near Trout River. Part of the fence was made of old lobster traps.

Lightroom has a tricky file system and anything you move MUST be moved within the Lightroom dialogue and file structure, not by moving it on your computer. This is especially difficult to understand if you're a mac person like me. Lightroom has a "find" feature to locate lost files if you can see the preview but are getting the "image not found" message. Search the lightroom Help file (a pdf you can keep on your computer) for "find lost files" and it will explain. The file system is the only thing that has a really steep learning curve in LR, the rest is pretty intuitive. But you will have to take a deep breath and sort the file thing out, decide on some basics that work for you, and stick to it, because the structure is unforgiving. I am new here too, but I think maybe you'd get more helpful answers in a different section.

I am concerned that the posted photo is a lot darker than it is on my monitor and darker than it is on another website I posted it to. Maybe I just need to learn how Hedgehog renders and what export settings will work best. Any suggestions appreciated!!

My first "toe in the water" in this forum. Traveled to arches/canyonlands this spring, still working on processing the many photos (due to work constraints I'm a binge photographer). It was a challenge to shoot here because the area you set up in is tiny and that morning it was congested with grumpy photographers with big expensive gear who muscled the weaklings out, so every shot had to be taken through a forest of tripod legs and elbows. Not my favorite way to take pictures! But wanted to take my try at this iconic area with that wonderful light. I did stay after everyone left and got other nice and more relaxed opportunities.

I'm new here, but will throw my 2cents in anyway. Everybody has their own path but learning full manual was the best way for ME . I use other settings for specific purposes once I've mastered manual but I can't seem to learn the other way around, and every camera is different. When I got an m43 camera I had to relearn a lot, but now I'm fairly "camera bilingual" and can switch between standard DSLR and m43. In my DSLR to m43 transition I had to go back and forth between settings and resulting pictures to learn where the safe aperatures are for the camera and the new lenses, because diffraction became a problem at a different f stop and ISO had different limitations. One camera's 3200 ISO is very different from another's. So I'd encourage you to stay the course on learning full manual for your camera and in the process, you'll be learning the other settings too. Books help with getting overall concepts but specifics about settings in books and articles can mess you up because they tend to be about the writer's camera, not yours

Just discovered this website, and it looks like a lot of pretty amiable people which isn't always true on photography sites (even some other females which is rare). I'm getting ready to retire in June and hope to spend more time with photography which, other than my grandchildren, is my main hobby. I'm a national park addict, and travel to them as often as I can with camera always in hand, but I'll take pictures of anything, for example this guy in the kids science museum I took my grandson to weekend before last.
