I am considerering buying a Nikon D500 and this lens for certain aspects of my photography. Thanks a lot.

I'm using a number of precautions with the BR strap. My whole system is Arca-Swiss so to make things easy if I was to change from the BS strap to my tripod, I'm using a

Kirk 1" Standard Quick Release Clamp for Arca-style Plates and Mount found at

http://www.adorama.com/KIRQRC1.html

This makes it very quick to change.

I've installed a safety tether that attaches to the BG hand strap location on the body and the other end is attached the the "D" ring of the BR Strap.

Op/Tech Uni-Loop-XL System Connector, 2 Pack, 1 Male/1 Female

http://www.adorama.com/OTSCULXL.html

Note: This might not be the best method for a really long lens (lens weight issue) but it's better than nothing as a precaution.

I've also applied blue lock-tite to the fastener. (I don't anticipate a need to remove it since using the Kirk Clamp.)

Finally I tightened the carabiner adequately and then used heat shrink tubing so it doesn't loosen.

When using a shorter lens, I attach system to the L Bracket (Arca-Swiss) that I have on the camera body and the safety tether.

My only complaint stems from the body bouncing off of my hip and over time the L-bracket irritates my bony hip. I'm in the process of making a velcro closure sealed foam buffer attaching to my pants to reduce this problem.

I'm hoping this system will completely prevent any mishaps. I can't see another practical safeguard that would help here.

[quote=bharatwd]Regarding the Blackrapid strap quote]

I have one these straps but already had a camera unscrew from it and hit the street. My fault for not checking how tight but it happened.
Also I worry about hanging any heavy camera and lens combo. The 1/4-20 bolt should be fine but what about the pem (nut, receptacle) it screws into. I just don't feel this type of expensive and heavy equipment is meant to be hanging upside-down and swinging around by the pem in the camera body or the lens foot.

Good example. Have often shown fishing pictures taken with my DSLR to my friends, one of whom owns a bait and tackle store. They look at them and say nice, and move on. However, there is one photo that they really liked and is now hanging in the bait and tackle store. Yep, was taken with my smartphone.

Smartphones have their place and can produce some amazing results. (love your photo) Here his my grandson playing soccer and I don't know if I would have gotten this with my phone.

The 18-200mm is a popular lens. that was my all-around lens when I had the D7xxx series. Don't rule out used and refurbished.

Hello all! I want to purchase a camera strap to allow for carrying my camera.
I have a 70D with battery grip and want to be able to swing it up to use it when I'm out walking around taking outdoor photos. I know there are different types but am wondering which ones I should consider & should I buy some Canon or B&H or Adorama or where? Thanks fo your input!

While some edits can be made to a JPG with no adverse effects, I'll tell you that I rarely will edit a JPG. If I do, it's never to my satisfaction. Just not enough data to work with.

In film days, we used the negative to make a print. With digital, I use the raw file to make a JPG. Just as we shared our prints, I share the JPG. But, just as we always kept our negatives, I keep my raw file. For me, it's a direct correlation.

Thanks!!

How do I save edited images for large prints that are edited and shot in JPEG fine ?

IMO anything worth printing large should also have a backup copy saved as a TIFF.

"JPEGs lose quality every time they are opened and/or saved.
False. Simply opening or displaying a JPEG image does not harm the image in any way. Saving a JPEG repeatedly during the same editing session (without ever closing the image) will not accumulate a loss in quality.

Copying and renaming a JPEG will not introduce any loss, but some image editors do recompress JPEGs when the Save As command is used. To avoid more loss you should duplicate and rename JPEGs in a file manager rather than using "Save As JPEG" in an editing program.

The Pitfalls of JPEG Compression
JPEGs lose quality every time they are opened, edited and saved.

True. If a JPEG image is opened, edited, and saved again it results in additional image degradation. It is very important to minimize the number of editing sessions between the initial and final version of a JPEG image. If you must perform editing functions in several sessions or in several different programs, you should use an image format that is not lossy (TIFF, BMP, PNG) for the intermediate editing sessions before saving the final version.

Repeated saving within the same editing session won't introduce additional damage. It is only when the image is closed, re-opened, edited and saved again."
