How does that yarn go about "ifs and buts"?

...yanno, if I shot Canon I'd probably want to jump-in on anything Nikon, too.

Charlie

I made it clear in my post... To each his/her own -- and that is "OK"

As for me, I call Canon CPS by phone, get a prepaid mailing label via email within 10 min, Mail it that day before 4 PM via FedEx, Canon CPS get it by 10 AM, the next day, they do their thing, and my equipment shipped back to me the very same day by 'close of day' via FedEx and, I get it back by 10 AM on the 3rd day... If I ship Monday, I get back by Wed at 10 AM. Canon CPS pays for the shipping both to and from me to Virginia.. and the cleaning fee is free as part of my membership.

As for cameras, I have 4 units... Ranging from 1Dx, EOS R5, 5D MIV, and 5Ds-R...
... As for me, I am sure I can make something work for two days.....

Again, that is me...... and gosh know, everyone else can do what they wish... That is "OK"

I was just putting information before the group, If and Should they wish to consider

I am happy that your 'system' works for you.

Cheers

...I think it was the "pinching pennies" comment that got me going, many of us are not sending equipment in for simple maintenence. Ordinarily I'm a live and let live kinda person.

One more point OR...

It is amazing that individuals will pay thousands for GAS, and pinch pennies on maintenance.

Agreed with you..... Cheap Insurance.

Well, surely it's a good thing to let the pros do it, but when I see a dirty sensor in post processing I want that sensor cleaned *now!* Don't have the time, nor inclination to wait for the job to get done by someone else, especially if I need that camera the next day. It's *my* equipment and I'll take care of it, thankyewveddymuch. Heck, I own a 12K tuba...I give it a bath and take care of the slides and valves myself, wouldn't think of burdening my repair guy with simple maintenence. I understand the caution from some, but I'm a hands-on tool person for life...for sure not "pinching pennies."

20 or 30 years ago is before companies were seriously engaging in this process. Yes my Apple 2e cost ~$4000, I think, with no hard drive. Computers have gotten cheaper. Lets compare cameras. Nikon D3 $5000. D4 $6000 D6 $6500. 600mm lenses I've had $8000 (2002), $9800 (2014) .......$12,000 (2020) I don't have. The first one had a close limiter, like Canon, then they removed that. I don't see cheaper, but less for more $.

How about cars for example. Now robots are used, much automations, fewer workers, jobs overseas.
(1976 jeep pickup was ~$5000 1986 Toyota pickup ~10,000 1996 Chevy pickup ~$20,000, 2015 Chevy pickup $30,000)4WD Latter is bumpiest ride I've ever had in a vehicle.

...inflation is the main culprit, can you not understand that? I spent the same amount they're charging for the D6 on my D5, the 6k for my D4 was 2012...a $500 markup in 8 years is not only reasonable, it's a deal. You're just baying at the moon (this comment includes your original post on a manual, which is easily stored as a pdf in *all* my devices)...I can see your point about close limiters, tho, but personally, I just keep mine at "Full" most of the time anyhow.

...angle of incidence and, the converse, the angle of reflection. The latter is the bug bear when shooting mirror/reflecting surfaces, and of course, it's produced by the former. I shoot all of my art (and for others at times) and have my lights set up roughly 45 degrees from the piece on either side. I also may have other light sources accent one factor or another, along with reflector(s). Here's an example...I use non-glare plexi over my prints which helps, especially when the work is on display (non-glare plexi is SUCH an improvement over glass...you don't see the person standing next to you, boogering the art, which is the subject!).

I spray, when shooting wildlife or sports, and I *don't* pray; because I know I got it. I use the equipment to optimize different situations, as it's designed to do. I *like* gear that will allow me to succeed.

I have used nothing but canon inks in a Pro-100 and 2600. I have never had ink clogs or any other problem caused by the in activity of the printer. I had continual problems with such things with Epson where they told me to run a test sheet weekly. Right now then I buy from canon I get 50 sheets of 13x19 paper free which helps defray the cost.

Haha...well, if you succumb to the hype you will run a test sheet weekly. I've owned Epson stuff forever and threw that idea out with the initial instructions...and haven't had a clog problem, even with my after-market inks. <shrug> YMMV, of course.

I've converted an Epson R3000 to Ink Owl's carts with fine results. My Epson P800, however, is difficult unless I hack it (not so for the Europian models...*they* can use after market with impunity. Harrrrumph!) which I still may do. But, as another option, when my present supply gets low, I will use an Ink Owl tactic that will allow me to use larger, one-use, cartridges without trouble, which at my rate of usage will last prolly until I leave the planet.

I have a Epson P800 and I use max width paper (17") cut at 25" to get my 25x16's, and like Bill says, I trim the 1/2" border down a bit for my framing (which I create). I lose maybe 1/8" of the image in the translation because the frame overlaps that much, but that's in the plan. <shrug> On a 24x16 I feel that's an acceptable loss of image real estate...

...sorry, that should be "24x16's" (edit function timed-out)
